Sounds like a mixture of some old Def Jam stuff and SWCW, sounds like they actually sampled SAL 'go'.
Video also has some SWCW.

I wouldn't mind hearing a new song featuring Adrock if Eminem is trying to honor the Beasties.

I LOVE the way the video looks. I don't care for the music or the fact that it's ultimately a commercial for something I don't care about. And I didn't hear any samples. Unless the OP meant "visual sample" or better yet "visual reference".

This (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SwntOUuUPiU) promo for his new album sounds a lot like they're using either a sample or interpolation of Time to Get Ill on one of the tracks.

EDIT: this might be the same song - not sure.

Cool. Sounds promising at least.

By the way, Dizzee Rascal sampled another Billy Squire song on Fix Up, Look Sharp. Squire filmed one of the most hideous music videos ever (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fR0j7sModCI), but had pretty solid drum breaks on a lot of his records. Speaking of rock drum samples, someone should slow down and loop up the intro to ELO's "Don't Bring Me Down."

The Big Beat. It's gotta be up there Apache and The Big Payback with being sampled the most in hip-hop..

I've sampled the shit out of Billy Squire's catalogue. Great breakbeats and guitars.

I didn't hear any samples

I think there is? the 'go' part from 'Slow and low', in the back during the hook / chorus. Or that could be 'stroke' from Squire as well, which would make less sense as he says 'let yourself go'.
But yeah I mean 'sampled' as in 'reference'.

Dunno, sounds pretty nice for a pop song.

I must admit, I've never been the biggest fan of Eminem... But it is pretty fucking cool to hear him and Adrock on the same track, albeit a sampled Adrock from 25 years ago.

Not a huge fan of this track. This style of rap was not made for his voice.

(y) I completely agree.

I always said it was his voice that annoyed me but this song I kinda like. It's got beats, scratches, some guitar.... That's the kind of hip hop I like so I guess if he stopped doing stupid ballads with Rihanna then I would probably listen to him.

uhhh dont really get how its a tribue

It's a tribute because (beyond the "kick it" sample) the whole first verse is undeniably done in Adrock's LTI rhyme style. Just like the next verse is an obvious Snoop tribute done in the same fashion and so on. I quite liked it other than the chorus. I especially liked the slight alterations done to the "Kick it" sample, turning it into crickets, stick it, pigment and Kendrick still sounding like Adrock all the while. The single cover is also quite ill, an obvious homage to LL's iconic Radio album cover.

I liked the video.

Thoughts:

*Would have been better without the poser of all musical posers, Kid Rock though (poser meaning: jumping from style to style conveniently when it's getting popular. Conventional hip hop to metal Korn rap to pop country western, I'm surprised he hasn't gotten a new haircut and jocked Justin Beiber yet). Just tacked on explanation in advance, for the inevitable board member that will get offended by that.

*But I did like that Together Forever T-shirt Em had on. I gotta try to find myself one of those.

*I was also skeptical about some saying on this thread that the video would have elements of So Whatcha Want, but I think they were ultimately right.

DJed at Mike D's parties in 98, shows up in AIFST, did the HoF tribute (a massive co-sign since you know they had veto on that). I dunno, man. I'm not into his music beyond that 'Fuck Off' song, but even as a fan they never struck me as anything less than mutually respectful of each other as people. But I'm not mad at shit in the slightest.

Video is good. Song is the best 'first' single since My Name Is, but that's not saying much. Should be interesting to hear the album. Especially if Kendrick and Alchemist actually feature beyond the video.

Fair enough, never meant to imply they hate eachother, although I wouldn't call the HOF participation a massive co-sign either. I really don't think Mike D & Adrock really give that much thought either way, especially in April 2012. It's hard for me to envision any of the Beastie Boys ever hearing a Kid Rock track and utterly loving it, but that's just my opinion. And it seems pretty obvious based on what I've seen that there has never been any real relationship between them. When I hear that an artist is "down" with another artist I think of a significantly greater connection.

Also: is it just me or are all 3 BBoys actually being being portrayed in the bezerk video? Mike D & Adrock by Em and MCA by Rubin

This doesn't really speak to musical respect and the way acts are considered "down" with eachother.

A lot of musical artists are friends on a personal level but don't have much respect for eachother on the musical/professional level.

I said before I thought the song was pretty good and after watching the video with RR I thought it was cool. It's definitely Beastie inspired all throughout from the video style, the clothes, that plaid is so Mike D and I thought I saw that UPS type uniform and hat MCA wore???? Well they all did.....

I am partial to anybody connected to the Beasties, but I do love what RR did with them, i like his sound. Its what interested me in hip hop anyway. Eminem sure is polarizing on here lol :P

I, for one, have been an 'on and off' fan of him since he came on the scene in 98 and although i don't think this is his best work or anything, I really really dug this track...

i've been waiting for him to stop obsessing about himself, whining about his life and to mature a bit so he can just spit some Hip-Hop (he seriously is a brilliant lyricist) and I think he's on his way. He does well on this track with all the nods to the Boys and to Old School Hip Hop in general and I think overall it's just a real fun song. Rick Rubin co-producing his album really excites me too, i can't wait to hear the whole thing.

Oh and after a few listens to this track, I now dig the chorus, it's currently stuck in my head... damnit! lol...

Yes thank you because for me as a hip hop fan what I like is to hear them spit some Hip-hop as you so nicely put it. It's what I loved about the Beasties.

Not to say that a rapper shouldn't be able to tell their story or whine if they want to about life...but it's just not my thing. His lyrics are better than anything I have ever heard from him. Now this still won't make me go out and buy his music suddenly but..... it's a good song.

Eminem said in an interview that The Beastie Boys and LL Cool J are the two artists than made him want to rap. You can tell by this video that he is paying homage to both of them.

Dont really give a monkeys about a quote made 20 years ago. Would be interesting to know what they thought about him now. I was just saying that if you think about some of the music he has been involved with that there must be something about the input that he has thats clearly got something.

Unmemorable shocking piece of sh*t in my humble opinion. Never been down with anything that this guy has put out and apart from the obvious nods to the source this is not worth the 5 minutes I just spent listening to it.

My exact reaction upon first listen. I have to say I found it earworming through my brain and had to come back for a second listen. I HATE the hook [even though it is the most memorable part] but some of his rhymes on here are impressive.

DaVinci's Pen & MC Ren. How has nobody put that rhyme together before?

oh and edit: I do like the vocal sample in the hook. And seeing it worked into the video [as a video guy myself] it is done really well.

It's not a perfect shot for shot recreation, but it's pretty apparent that this is intended as homage.

Notice how heavily Rubin is chewing his gum in those shots?

I also think it's pretty likely that the grainy footage of fights and backyard wrestling are an homage to the grainy footage of tsunamis, twisters, hurricanes and volcanoes in SWW.

He's trying to walk a pretty fine line - obviously wants to pay some respect to the Beastie Boys, but given the way this particular type of music immediately calls them to mind, the other references in the video have to be subtle or it just seems overdone.

I like it and appreciate the thought that went into it.

Yes! I'm glad I'm not the only one that noticed that.

I loved the blackjack scene at the end of the video which is recreated from LL's Going Back to Cali video. Too funny.

I liked that reference too, it took me a bit to place it....

This song reminds me of why I stopped caring about him circa 2001. He has skills and lyrics on a technical level, but the songs he puts together sound like sonic garbage and leave me feeling hollow as opposed to tracks from other MCs. I don't know if Rick Rubin worked on this track, but Em some how managed to still fuck it up and make it sound wack.
