Hey peeps,

Just realized I'll have a 13 hour layover in Chicago in early October...don't really want to buck up for a hotel...flight lands a 6pm leaves 7am...thinking about going for dinner and maybe see some blues...any suggestions?...is O'hare "sleepable" between, say, midnight and 6 AM?...never flown through it but all I'm hearing are nightmare stories...

I'm not sure O'hare is sleepable, I've never seen anyone sleeping there. However, it's a very large airport, so you could probably get away with slumping in a chair.

It's also not in the city, so you'd have to take a train or cab in. I'd take the train because traffic is awful. I've got no suggestions for blues, I've been here a long time and never saw any. Kingston Mines is where a lot of people go. It's in the neighborhood called Lincoln Park, which has a lot of places to eat. It's lousy with yuppies though.

If you want to go somewhere that is always cool, and very Chicago, I'd go to the Green Mill for jazz. http://greenmilljazz.com/ There are some restaurants around there too, but the neighborhood is a tad sketchy, so mind your bags. There's an improv comedy theater nearby too, if you want to get dorky. http://www.annoyanceproductions.com/

All in all though, that's not much time, it might be best to just chillax in a hotel in the suburbs.

Thanks D.W...The Green Mill looks really cool...but your last piece of advice is the one I may end up rolloning with as I'll be on tail end of the vacay and will probably be pretty wiped...(y)
