First of all let me say, I have not seen the much-discussed VMA performance (although, obviously, I've heard about it and seen stills) and now there's this hullabaloo about her new video, and from what I gather she has some sort of spastic tongue problem in general, but whatever. I'm not about hatin' on young chicks who want to have a bit of fun and dance around and whatnot, no moralizing here from me. And I'm not sure why it's all such a big deal anyway - it's not like this is something new under the sun.

The question I have though is, does anyone actually find what she does sexy? To me it just all seems so... like, calculated and obvious. I get that the image that she (and/or, her management team) is that she's this fun, breezy, sexy chick. But all I see when I look at her is 'hey, here's an oh-so-shocking thing we can do that will get attention and make money!' And it works for that, clearly - but does anyone actually find her to be, you know... "hot"? Cuz I'm just not getting "hot" out of the whole show, at all.

Just wondering. Maybe there are tons of dudes (and some gals) out there who are finding it all super high octane wank fuel, I dunno. To me it all seems very superficial, like there's no real gravity or sensuality or anything properly animal and passionate involved in any way. Except maybe a passion for selling a product.

I feel like the media have set her up to fail. They did it with Britney Spears. You take a young girl, put her in the spot light, have journalist write about every hormone change and replay it on a loop. Then make sure she feels loved for it sit back and watch as she turns into a young woman and then write about everything she does or doesn't do now that she isn't a child and is fair game.

I think I'm turning into an old feminist but terms like "I'd hit it" that are so commonplace that it makes it harder for people to realise that there is a 20 year old woman (not an it) who you are talking about "hitting". And for "still gets work", she is a blonde 20 year old who is confident enough to wear a skin coloured swim suit on TV. Most of us will have seen porn where pretty much the woman has been tricked into what she is doing and I admit that I've got my cheap thrill off that. It's hard to say if she is a victim of show business but a lot of people are willing to do a lot more degrading things for 0.00001% equivalent fame where fame for being famous rather than talent is a more revered trait. If you have a teenage or pre-teen daughter how do you explain to her that her idol isn't a way to behave?

I'm sorry to rant to a simple question. But when I see her I can't say if she is attractive or not, I just feel sad for her. She looks happy but I'm too cynical to trust she has the right people round her to stop her being set up. I hope I am wrong.

I know. It's culture I'm blaming but like I say, I'm an old feminist stuck in a 30-something man's body. In my teens I would be telling my current self that I've blown it all out of proportion and we know what we're doing.

I am looking at her as a piece of art because music and performance and video is a form of art. I am not taking out the sexuality, it's part of the performance.

Beauty is visceral, and not always sexual in the way that you want to fuck it. You can admire beauty and be excited by it without actually wanted to fuck the object or person you consider beautiful. Also, flowers are beautiful, children can be beautiful, old people can be beautiful, I consider my mom to be beautiful...that doesn't mean I want to fuck all those things and people.

I see what you mean. My comment was more about the overall package. Yes CYP's girl looks more physically fake to me than Miley, but for me the general feeling I get about both is that of being manufactured - be that body or persona.

I don't think she's any more manufactured than any performer. You have to create a package, but it's not like the person being packaged has absolutely no say.

I guess I just can tell that she's (or whoever is helping her form her taste) is influenced by Wendy O. Williams (who frequently wore cut off white tank tops and underwear on stage), current hipster/trashy/dancey/rappy party music by women like Brooke Candy and Chippy Nonstop, 80's pop rock, punk fashion of the early 80's, hip hop fashion of the late 80's, and yes, Joan Jett, plus other rocker chicks. And honestly, she probably just has good stylists because she is on point with her trendiness. I think she could have worse influences. She lives in L.A., probably scours tumblr for outfit ideas just like anyone else her age would. And she happens to have the time and money to work on her look and her body, so she wants to splash it everywhere she can.

I'll give it to you on the keeping fit thing, I do admire people who have that level of commitment. But the overall look (especially the first picture, which looks too much like someone's overly airbrushed 'anime chick dream come to life') just seems too too plastic and manipulated. To me. The whole Gym, Tan thing is definately Jersey Shore. Except for the (maybe) implants on the 3rd girl - don't really see any plastic. They all look moderately made-up. Those abs are kind of scary though. The whole aesthetic rings of fist-pump rather than head-bang. Not everyone's can of Red Bull.

Well as you know I live in Asia, and they certainly do not all look the same. However I just looked at the three pictures again and I'm sorry but they look a LOT alike, with only the most minor variations that I had to deliberately look for in order to see. I'll give it to you on the keeping fit thing, I do admire people who have that level of commitment. But the overall look (especially the first picture, which looks too much like someone's overly airbrushed 'anime chick dream come to life') just seems too too plastic and manipulated. To me.
