Such an epic album. the perfect blend of the whole band before waters started trying to dominate everything with his tones of anger and sinister depressions. a technical marvel and artistic masterpiece. the soundscapes, moods, and emotions are so rich and lavish. look up Classic Albums documentary of the making of dark side. how they were actually able to make an album of that magnitude with the early seventies studio technology is genius. the atmosphere, the thick atmosphere hasn't been replicated since even with all of the new studio tricks and wizardry. how can an album this old sound this good? if you ever have a chance to listen to their surround sound remasters of dark side and wish you were here on a decent system you'll be immediately drawn right in to the world and mind of these sonic blockbusters.
pink floyd were hard for me to grasp at first. their music isn't immediate or easy to digest. there's a lot of patience and plodding that builds and crashes then builds again. there's cues and callbacks to other parts of songs that dive you right back into the emotion of that previous or sometimes future song and completely change the setting of the current song. they make an emphasis on singular striking sounds create a foreboding evil that contrasts with gilmours angelic sobbing solos and vocals. they're not trying to be happy boogie rock.
their later albums may be better written with more elaborate ideas. but waters is too fucking nasty and pissed off for me. when he started to dominate, the contrast between him and his bandmates, especially gilmour, was severely lacking.
dark side is the perfect magical blend of pink floyd.

Floyd with no Waters playing Dark Side of The Moon in its entirety in 1994 was still better than seeing Roger Waters with his own band playing the entirety of The Wall in 2010.

already lots of rumours flying around that they will be next years Glastonbury headliner.
i'm not going. damn.
apparently they have booked 3 of the 5 biggest bands never to have played there before. pink floyd fit that description.
anyway, its a fucking brilliant album. took me a loooooooooooooooooong time to get into floyd. it took the "meddle" album to do that. then when i heard this, it gently blew me away. it wasnt an immediate impact but it was more that towards the end of the album it dawned on me that it was such a good album. Really unique. still. Very soulful and spacey.
And the clocks shit me right up first time i heard it.

For me Pink Floyd is either Piper at the gates of dawn or Dark Side Of The Moon. Rest is shit.

Rhianna??? One of the 5 biggest bands ever?
Prince played in Sweden quite recently, twice even! First at Way Out West in Gothenburg 2012 and at Stockholm Music and Arts Festival this year. He's not any of my big favourites so didn't wanna pay shitloads nor work for free for 24 hours for his gig...
Rhianna's gig's here have been mostly disasterous....

i think princes time might have passed, he did a couple of small festivals here a few years back.
I'm not saying rihanna is amazeballs but she has sold a fuckload of records and is massively popular. I'm just going off the fact that glasto like to mix up their headliners, its usually a big UK star of the day on the friday, a fucking huge older band and an act who have shifted loads in last few years.
If people like beyonce and jay z headline it then there's no reason she cant. I'm not bothered by her, my daughter is going to be mortified if she dos play there next year.

For me the best Pink Floyd album is Animals. Just incredible from start to finish.
I did see Roger Waters and band play Dark Side of the Moon in its entirety in 2011 or 2010 or something. It was pretty good

Animals and Meddle switch between 1 and 1a for me.
I can't see getting into Dark Side with Roger's band playing it.
without Gilmore, Richard Wright, or Dick Parry on sax, it's just not Dark Side.

No I agree. While it was great to watch it did have an unescapable tinge of non genuineness to it.
