Hi. I posted this in another section of the board, but will post again here. I like to think what would Yauch do, how can I make life a little better for others and perhaps in some small way this might keep Yauch's spirit alive. When I think like this I am less sad.
"It is best to think of Adam as a kind, generous artist who gave much to this troubled world. Do not be sad at his passing, but take pleasure to have been touched by his generous and enlightened soul. This makes me feel better when I get down."

MCA was a buddhist which means he believed that this life is only one part of the journey. Buddhists accept death as a natural part of living, and theres several other stages after that which includes rebirth.
You learn from your experiences in this life and then get to do it all again, with more wisdom. I'm paraphrasing complex religious ideas but the point of what I'm saying is that MCA woulden't have wanted us to be crippled with sadness at his passing. He'd want us to take inspiration from his life and try to continue his message and take some of his creative and positive spirit and apply it to our own lives.
MCA ain't dead, he's only moved on. The Beasties ain't over, their legacy is there forever. I think it's time we stopped wallowing in sadness and wish the Beasties were still around, because they're not, but we can now take their influence and apply it to our own lives, or enjoy whatever new creative projects Mike D and Adrock chose to do, if they so chose to. They might decide to keep it relatively low key in the mainstream creative arts thing from now on. If Mike D wants to do the occasional remix, and Adrock play bass for stand up comedians, then that's their choice. If we like it, cool, if we don't, that's not gonna make them get back to rapping or anything.
I am surprised however (and I might be contradicting myself with this last part) that they haven't done more following MCA's passing in the form of a tribute concert or other such things celebrating his life. Adrock opened the Yauch park but that's still minor considering MCA had the fanbase to pull off something large, connect a whole bunch of people together under his legacy. Perhaps even another series of Tibetian Freedom Concerts that would work also as tributes to MCA.
I do wonder if MCA contemplated releasing a statement regarding his religion in the weeks up to his death. But in saying that, religion is a personal thing, not everything has to be consumed by the public and his fanbase.
Cancer is bullshit though, and it sucks when these important and influencial figures leave our world. But death is not necessarily the end MCA would want us to look for the positive in any situation.

I'm not, at all. Not their style IMO. I honestly don't expect them to ever publicly address it again. Again, IMO, Yauch wouldn't want them (or anyone else) to dwell on it. As you said, Yauch has moved on. Time for everyone to do the same. Celebrate the music, the memories, and the life....but the time to mourn must always come to pass.

That's totally true we can't mourn forever, which was the point of the majority of my post. And yeah perhaps it's not their style.
And I'm aware I'm probably contradicting myself with this but woulden't it be awesome to have one last massive musical/arts/charity large scale festival in the dudes honour? It woulden't be so much as mourning but partying and celebrating his legacy.
Or just a reason to get a whole lot of Beastie Boys/music fans together, especially as there's a whole generation of Beastie Boys fans who never had the chance to see them live.
But perhaps I'm just getting unrealistic and thinking about the wrong things with this one. At the end of the day, totally it's up to Mike and Adam how and if they do anything more with the legacy. We've always got MCA day and various other fan created gatherings to party for the right to fight and all that.

Dude was low-key, and it's shit without him and the band, but life has to go on.

Nice posts Lucifer!
I think Yauch was the one to make stuff happen so Mike and Adrock would just follow Yauch's lead on projects. Perhaps the memoir things is going to be that closure piece. I'm really glad they're doing that!!!
Anyway, I miss Yauch!!! RIPMCA

I think you are exactly right. They have been working together consistently for 30 years. It’s not going to be easy to just suddenly pop out with the Adrock & Mike D Project when their very foundation has been taken away from them. It probably doesn’t feel right to them. And it doesn’t matter what MCA told them to do, because if it’s awkward for them to make music without him then they aren’t going to do it.
Life does suck without MCA. I still have difficulty listening to the band and I really hope that changes because I love their music and I am missing out.
Hang in there KENNY. Nothing wrong with expressing how much you miss Yauch as long as you don’t let it interfere with day to day life.

thanks everyone. it helps me that adam had found a religion that he believed in and followed. Im at those crossroads as well but I do believe in reincarnation and my friends ridicule me for even thinking it was in my mind. we were all happy with the beasties music always on the radio and tv, knowing full well how they influenced what the younger kids are listening to and most have no clue the beasties were responsible for paving the road for todays artists.

Reincarnation is real I think. Although, i don't think everyone, or maybe even most people, reincarnate. Don't buy the cynical death is the end deal. It really isn't.
