What do you guys think of them? They seem to be going in a decent direction, glad they're still around.
MCA was asked one time by a journalist what he was listening to, and he said the first Arctic Monkeys album. It's still really good. I wonder if he was the kind of musician who liked to jam along to albums in his spare time fucking about.

I really love their first album. I saw them whenever they came to Philly their first and second records.
After that, I tuned out. I did check out their latest new record and I thought it was really good. I only listened to it once. But I did like it.

They are top.
Its interesting to hear that mca liked their first album. I think its still their best but i think its a very english album. lots of references and situations that are unique to england in the lyrics. Cracking tunes though and i guess Alex Turner is a very good story teller.
Apart from third album, i think they have developed their sound well and have achieved the skill of sounding like they first did whilst incorporating new styles and sounds as well.

I think that's why I liked their first album so much. Alex's storytelling was as nice as Mike Skinner's (I was a huge Streets fan at the time). I also liked the bass player on the first album. After he left the group I could tell their sound was different on the second LP.
Nostalgia.

I got to watch them get interviewed at a radio station after the Awesome DVD came out. The interviewer had a stack of CDs and went through them and asked for their opinions. Arctic Monkeys were in the stack and Mike D said his wife really liked it. The interview is probably on the net. It was at The Edge 102.1 in Toronto. I remember that day so well! I got to talk to MCA twice! He signed my anthology LP box at the radio station, and then I got to meet them again a couple hours later at HMV and the rest of the band signed it. And MCA added more to his autograph. Best day ever.

^ awesome story.
Yeah been following them since they're first album, saw em live in '09. Was just before Humbug was released and they played a bunch of album tracks, so while I loved it, I feel like they're a much better live band now. Looking forward to seeing them this year, they're doing an Arena tour for the first time over here, plus an MSG show in Feb, and a bunch of festival/outdoor dates in Europe later in the year. So yeah, they're definitely peaked in popularity since the release of AM.
