I can't stand when creative writing pretensions and "journalism" collide. Music reviews are a good example, I was just reading a horrible one.

This (http://www.tinymixtapes.com/music-review/arcade-fire-reflektor) is the most pretentious album review since this. (http://pitchfork.com/reviews/albums/6656-kid-a/) Really makes me cringe.

haha

very fitting writing for these bands, though.

I like Reflektor and Kid A as much as the next person, but you're right, and it almost makes me not want to like them.

I like how in the Reflektor review I can tell that the reviewer took all the same "101" classes in college that I (and everyone else probably) did.

The biggest difference is that I probably got a better grade in Creative Writing 1 than he did.

these two bands are highly pretentious. doesn't make them bad bands though. if both these bands didn't overshoot they'd be ordinary and bland.

"The experience and emotions tied to listening to Kid A are like witnessing the stillborn birth of a child while simultaneously having the opportunity to see her play in the afterlife on Imax."

What a quote.

It is a good album though.

Inorite.

Both albums are excellent, imo.

And I'm not even judging the attempts at being poetic in those reviews. They could be pure beautiful art, but they still wouldn't belong in any kind of review or critical writing. It is just inappropriate for that mode of writing. There is no reason to inject "creative" "art" in a review other than to show everyone how inflated your sense of self-importance is, and to demonstrate how you completely miss the point of how to write criticism and/or how to write creatively.

Yeah I can't even read music reviews, it makes me too angry.
