Listening to Howard Stern today Sal was talking about his old prodigy chat group called Beastie Revolution. He mentioned a person named Ben that he used to talk to and trade with. Is that our Ben Aka Porky?

Also, they replayed the interview from April 6, 1987. I have most of that interview on a cd somewhere but it was funny. Sneaky pouch!

Yes that was me. Sal & I were friends before he joined Howard Stern.
I still remember him telling me how he was thinking about prank calling
the Howard Stern show. He finally did it & they got such a kick out of
it , that they had him come down to the show . Howard Stern ended
up giving him a job on the show. The rest is history.

WHOA!!! I joined the internet just days after Ill Communication was released and that was the first group I joined. Sal sent me a cassette of the 1987 show in Cleveland back then.

I also remember some kid named Scott I think from Florida that Sal started giving all of his beastie stuff to, this kid was collecting VW medallions, etc.

Hmm, did we ever trade VHS tapes back then Ben? I remember sending someone in California a copy of the Miami 1992 show in exchange for the LA 1992 show.

CJ - yes, I was on that alt.beastie-boys.music group from time to time.

What message board were we using before this one?

Forgive me, I'm old and dusted.

I remember getting the old floppy disk they gave out at the IC quadrophonic tour. And I remember fighting with my old 14.4 dial up modem. It wasn't pretty. I'm sure I stumbled across CJ's alt board but don't think I ever figured it out.

They had an official board during HN.

When I was talking to Sal all the time ,
this was all pre internet. early 1990's.
We only had Phones & the us postal
service. We would talk for hours almost
everyday about The Beastie Boys & KISS.
Very Good Times !

Ha that's hilarious. Sal has had some classic moments on the Stern show.

So when he talked about being on the prodigy network with a Beastie site in the 80s, it was actually later, in the 90s, right ?

I mean I don't remember any internet in the 80s. Although I remember in like '82 (6th grade), some kids in my class got on the computer at school (we were probably one of the few elementary schools that had a computer back then, I was in this class for "smart kids", most of the kids are university professors now while I'm a music bum) and with the modem they could hack into the local university's computer. So maybe there was something like the internet....I don't know....I was computer ignorant till the late 90s when I started using one at a job and started getting online....

I honestly didn't know Howard Stern was still a big deal. I thought he was a judge on American Idol or some shit.

I worked with a guy that played his show religiously everyday on WYSP.

End of story.

He's not that big a deal on radio any more, he's on Sirius, where he only gets a fraction of listeners compared to when he was on regular radio. But I think he makes a lot more money doing that because the listeners pay.

Yeah he's a judge on America's Got Talent. He's all Hollywood now....

Check out the celebrity attendees at his Birthday Bash, crazy. The guy's still a big deal in radio (Sirius or not) and all other parts of media. He has seemed to mellowed with age a bit too (a little), which I think has actually made his show a bit better. It's also interesting to hear him championing causes like animal and gay rights now while not losing his edge.

I just don't think his show gets heard by anywhere near as many people though. Back when you could turn on the radio in any city in the country basically, and hear his show. It's a more specialized thing now, like being on HBO, as opposed to a major TV network (ABC, FOX, etc). He's still got a big influence in media, sure, but the show itself is not in the public consciousness as much as it was in the past. And yeah it's changed. Whether you think it's for the better is going to depend on the person I guess, but as a listener I got way way more laughs in the past than I get now. Actually I stopped listening a long time ago. The only time I listen is if there is an interview I want to hear.
