I enjoyed this show a lot. It wasn't perfect by any means, but I'd put it in easily in my top 10 dramas ever. Amazing performances by both McConaughey and Harrelson. Also "young" McConaughey is ridiculously hot in it. Discuss.

I'm a huge fan. The noir feeling, soundtrack, acting, writing. Sheesh.

I also love the fact that it was written by one person and all the episodes were directed by one person. I think it kept things balanced.

This will get repeated viewings in the future!

It'll be interesting to see what the show is like next season. I don't see how it could be possible to avoid a sophomore slump with a debut like that.

I just bought Nic Pizzolatto's (creator/writer of TD) first novel "Galveston". I'm going to start it today. The reviews for it have been pretty good.

Def one of my top shows. It was a slow start but after that scene in the neighborhood.. I was an addict.

My boss sauntered into the office the other day asking if I knew anything about Carcosa, and I just happened to get The King in Yellow for my birthday in November. He told me that mythos was getting into True Detective and insisted I copy down his HBO GO username so I could watch it and enthuse with him about it.

Is it good?

Very good. I'm not saying anything though because I would not want to spoil it. Was The King in Yellow good? I also wondered how much it actually influenced any of the story of True Detective.

The King In Yellow is a series of short stories - I think it was free on Kindle. I read maybe 4/10 of the stories on Kindle before deciding it was worth having on paper for later reference. It was really interesting and weird, but I stalled out on a story that was sort of meandering and confusing (a handful of deprecated archaic words made the reading difficult).

Really though, The King In Yellow has sort of been adopted into the Lovecraft mythos, and I found out about it through the comic The Invisibles and Alan Moore's Neonomicon/The Courtyard.

SNAP this show is really good.

I love that a detective is a philosophical pessimist. I was doing that Nietzsche bit earlier this year and this dude is in line with Schopenhauer. What maybe makes it even better is that both detectives represent their viewpoint, but are inconsistent at various points.

Not to mention the whole King in Yellow mythos slipping in here - loving it.

Great stuff (y)(y)

I still have three episodes to watch! But the one I just watched was full of drama.

It's impressive how the two actors can be convincing in all of the time periods.

Edit: Man, I meant to edit my earlier post, not make a new one.

McConaughey just made his way as my favorite actor in this between the past and present "himself." Great transformation in appearance.

The soundtrack was very gripping and fitting for every scenario. It was a very dark and gripping series and I do recommend to anyone.

As you know, I loved it. I watched it twice. I'd watch it again.

i finished watching it myself recently and yeah i loved it too. honestly that show could have been about literally anything and the quality of the acting (particularly the two leads) would have gripped me. nihilist young cole is basically me from an alternate future i feel

i definitely wanna watch it again now that i have a better sense of the characters (and now that i know that "carcosa" is a literary reference--didn't get that one till the end and i kept waiting for them to explain it!)

I really loved True Detective Series one...It wasn't perfect...but what is? What it was was a very good TV show.

I struggled to get into shows because I get bored very easily. A good show for me is one that grips me earlier and hard...and True Detective did that. Any show where I wanna watch another immediately after one is a good show to me.

I loved the last episode....and I have lots of thoughts on it.

I watched it twice through. I thought it was great. I loved it. i absolutely loved it. The cod-philosophy, the darkness, the scenery, the ACTING with a capital acting, the boozing, the music. Oh.

cod-philosophy

I've never heard that phrase, had to google it. I'm definitely dropping it on someone now.

I really loved it until near the end, when it disappointed me a little. Maybe I wasn't paying close enough attention or something. I thought the pacing was off. I was enjoying the episodes where there wasn't a lot happening, then suddenly there was too much happening at once and then suddenly here's a solution.

I absolutely loved the two main actors and all the location/mood/music. I'd watch another one, even though it will have a different cast.

And it was better than that Fargo show (though of course I'm only two episodes into Fargo).
