it seems that there's dudes that are totally fooled by trendy female fashions. a friend of mine was talking about this girl we all know. he described her as ugly. me and this other friend just looked at him. she looks like 80's phoebe cates. and so what if she might be ugly even though she isnt.

She looks just like that except with glasses and straight hair. she has this tight perky full body. I think what he doesn't like about her is that she's very fashionably plain and quiet. no makeup. no overly done hair. he seems to do this a lot towards girls that are kinda on the plain side. there seems to be a lot of guys that are same. they seem to be fooled or at least take into consideration of how they do themselves up and not be very concerned about what they actually look like underneath all that bullshit.

me and my other friend were just like... dude you're and idiot. she's classy and adorable as hell and doesn't give a fuck. so what if she's just wearing normal jeans and a t-shirt. that just makes her even better.

it's like these people are letting trends and the media dictate what their opinions are even for something that's very deep down in one's psyche as physical attraction. or im just reading into it too much.

I've totally given up trying to understand it.

I see these guys here in Shanghai, these dudes who show up here with their "yellow fever" and are into the attention they get from Chinese girls. And the girls they go for here are totally the Chinese equivalent - the hair, the make-up, the clothes etc etc. So they all coo and shimmy over these Western guys and bat their eyelashes (with extensions) and you see them leading these guys around the mall, with the guys carrying their shopping bags. And these idiot guys, they all look like "hey check me out, me and my hot Chinese girlfriend!" It's like they don't even get that they just look like giant wallets being dragged from one Louis Vuitton shop to the next. I don't know, man. Maybe those chicks really do have magic vaginas or something. Because the story always ends one of two ways: either they run out of money and the girl dumps them for the next sucker, or the chump ends up married to the girl which means they end up married to her entire family and they are now supporting half a village back in Anhui province.

I'm confused by the way 90% of people decide to dress/look. I think certain overdone looks are completely a product of media and advertising.

I was flipping through a ladies magazine and on a page of makeup advice it said something like "we're all guilty of throwing on just eyeliner before leaving the house. Eyeliner without [all the other stuff] is neither here nor there!"

First off, guilty? Why would guilt be a part of it? I wear only eyeliner all the time. Eyeshadow makes my eyes all itchy. Plus I'm apparently just supposed to put on layers and layers of all kinds of things and that is "normal", anything less I'm supposed to feel guilty.... My mom is a trained makeup artist, so I know that it can be fun but she let me know from an early age that advertising is bullshit, especially when it comes to beauty products.

Anyway, sounds like your dude friend is just afraid of intimacy, it's a maturity issue.

And for the yellow fever, I will never understand. I was at the beach once and a dorky white guy strolled over and sat nearby with a young Asian woman who didn't speak much English. The guy kept fawning over her while she giggled. At one point, she spread her legs to sit more comfortably (wearing Capri pants), and he said "oh you can't sit like that, you're turning me on!"

I wanted to puke. It was like he brought a toy to the beach. No conversation, just fawning. So creepy. I didn't understand at all.
