Does anyone know what happened between Adrock & Rick Rubin? It sounded like they were very close back in the day. Rick talks about hanging out with Adrock in this interview, but Zane never asks what broke up their friendship. Mike D. apparently made amends with Rick (Mike was in the studio when Jay Z recorded 99 problems), but I guess Adrock and Rick never made up. I wish some interviewer would ask about what happened between them.

wow, what a great interview. Zane Lowe presented some really great questions and RR seems like a zen master.

would be really great to get such an in depth interview one day with Mike or Adam

i forgot to link this last week sorry. I always wonder about linking bbc iplayer stuff for you guys in the states, didnt think it works

anyway i liked it, i did want a bit more bboys stuff but when you consider how much shit he has been involved with i think it would have been unfair to spend time about a negative aspect of his career too much. Especially when he talked about Def Jam quite a lot.

I had to wiki him just to see everything he has done and there's so much stuff he's involved with. So many artists and so diverse. It sounds like he's only ever used very simple ideas to get the artists to produce good stuff.

Maybe Zane did ask him but he didnt want to speak about it , i guess its well under the bridge but i think Zane did a good job and RR's zen rubbed off on him, normally he's very excitable when interviewing his heroes. he used to go to pieces when he spoke to the beasties. He did ok and i really enjoyed it

Great interview, I watched the whole thing. Rick Rubin living the life. I thought he came off as if the Beasties were his favorite group of all time. He kept referring to them as "us" without being prompted from Zane at all.

By the way, I completely echo the sentiment of a Mike D interview in his backyard with Zane Lowe.

yes, that track was on Def American before it was American Recordings and Horovitz is on record saying he didn't like that RR made $ from it

I'm sure Adrock didn't like that the Milk record came out on Rick's label, but I don't think that's the reason. It's from the LTI days and not getting paid right for touring and other things. He considered those guys friends (him and Russell), and they ripped him off. So he's like, "fuck them." Not sure why Mike lets it go now and not Adrock, maybe Mike just finds it easier nowadays to just try and forget about it.

everything's relative. i couldnt imagine adam holding a grudge all the way to this day. im sure they've made up to an extent, he's just not as 'visible' rubbing shoulders with rick as mike is. and that said, i doubt mike is as lovey dovey with rick as perceived either. i mean, the only real connection is the segment from the jay-z doc, right? for all we know that was just a fluke thing that doesn't necessarily mean they're all tight and shit. they're all grown men now, they're all wildly successful, and they all seem pretty level-headed easy-going dudes. im sure they're over it. id be willing to bet they're all good at this point.

thats my take at least.

Rick is surprisingly accessible and cool in this. And yeah, Zane reigns himself in nicely.
