I was at this show. I had waited in line for hours to buy tickets, but it sold out before I could get mine. So the night of the show I was hanging around the Palladium trying to find someone who would sell a ticket. I met some guy across the street that told me he worked security, and his friends were working the show, and they were going to get him in. He said he could get me in. We waited by some back doors and his friend opened up and let us in. I was very thankful to the dude that got me in and bought him beers all night long.

It was a ridiculous lineup of Primus, Rollins Band, Pornos for Pyros, Fishbone, Chili Peppers and Beasties. We got in late so I just saw Fishbone, Beasties, and Chili Peppers.

Anyhow it was a pretty classic evening all around. The crowd was way into Fishbone. It was wild. Vlade Divac and Michael Cooper were stage diving. After Fishbone, Max Perlich came up. I was down on the floor and I remember he said "And now the band you all came to see tonight - the Beastie Boys." This footage does not show it but they also did some stuff on their instruments. I remember specifically Gratitude and an instrument-backed version of Paul Revere. They probably did around 25 minutes or so. The crowd didn't know the new stuff because Check Your Head wasn't out yet, but I was familiar with it because I had a bootleg I had come up on a few weeks earlier from a guy I met playing it in his record store. I was a huge fan of the group at this time and was completely blown out by what I heard on that tape. And then seeing them doing a live show, I felt like what they were doing was something new, that they were right at the front of what was going on at the time. Then the Chili Peppers came on and closed the show, and they were great, as usual.

It was one of those shows I'll always remember. Really kind of encapsulated a state of mind and a feeling for me at the time. Cool to see this old footage. It's just like I remember to be honest. If there was a full dvd of the whole night that would be like a trip back in time. That would be crazy.
