is everything getting simplified? music, movies, tv, video games. the popular things of an artistic expression seem to have been getting dumbed down.
music, I think, Is suffering from this the most and expresses what Im thinking about most dramatically. music of the 60's and 70's is so intricately crafted and fucking out there. a lot of weird shit is happening. popular music today is so fucking bland, stale, predictable and paint by numbers on an assembly line. why are people currently preferring this? what's happening culturally for people to prefer simplistic entertainment? do they just not care as much? how come teenagers aren't all like... fuck this! we want better shit! that mentality is what I grew up with. hair metal was total and utter bullshit. everything about the mid to late 80's seemed very plastic and false. simple party rock and shitty pop. just like how popular music is today. just replace hair metal with the current state of popular rap and hip hop. then the 90's happen and music went back(for a time) to how it was in the 60's and 70's. it got very weird, unpredictable and gritty. trying new things against the grain. real shit. that only happened because that's what people wanted. why don't people want that anymore? what are people focusing on now? am I missing out on something that's just as awesome?
