is everything getting simplified? music, movies, tv, video games. the popular things of an artistic expression seem to have been getting dumbed down.

music, I think, Is suffering from this the most and expresses what Im thinking about most dramatically. music of the 60's and 70's is so intricately crafted and fucking out there. a lot of weird shit is happening. popular music today is so fucking bland, stale, predictable and paint by numbers on an assembly line. why are people currently preferring this? what's happening culturally for people to prefer simplistic entertainment? do they just not care as much? how come teenagers aren't all like... fuck this! we want better shit! that mentality is what I grew up with. hair metal was total and utter bullshit. everything about the mid to late 80's seemed very plastic and false. simple party rock and shitty pop. just like how popular music is today. just replace hair metal with the current state of popular rap and hip hop. then the 90's happen and music went back(for a time) to how it was in the 60's and 70's. it got very weird, unpredictable and gritty. trying new things against the grain. real shit. that only happened because that's what people wanted. why don't people want that anymore? what are people focusing on now? am I missing out on something that's just as awesome?

Smartphones, Facebook, and Internet connections being faster are what made teenagers apathetic to, well, everything. They're much more content in staring at their phones all day than wanting creative music. Maybe I'm generalizing, but it sure seems like it with teenagers today. Old man yelling at a cloud, etc.

Any new album releases that I like are by bands that originally formed in the 90s. Funny that.

totally agree. people are now so preoccupied with themselves and receiving attention. it's become like a full blown hobby.

listen to this! whether you like it or not you can't deny how DYNAMIC and perfectly executed this song is! it's starts of with this absolutely pummeling brutish riff and insane drumming. then around the 3:40 mark it veers off into this frantic and energetic technical showcase with soaring solos. then it makes another totally abrupt and unexpected turn into this really sweet and pleasant acoustic melody. during the transition to the acoustic set there's this incredible drum beat. such a tasty beat full of swing. something you could definitely hear in rap/hip hop. and this whole showcase still makes total sense together! pulled it off with total perfection.

does anything popular exist like this today? regardless of the genre?

I have heard from several young people that I know that they only listen to the 30 second samples of songs on iTunes so they don't have to pay for them, and that is the only way they listen to music now.
I hope that is not the majority.

everyone's a fucking idiot. ok maybe not everyone, but the majority. I am constantly shocked by people's stupidity, and I don't know why, I should be used to it by now. I actually think my parents maybe did me a disservice by teaching me to be a responsible person who values skill and knowledge.

I went to a movie yesterday and at least 20 people were late to the showtime, just opening the door and being all "excuse me" as they scooted past people. I'm talking 15-30 minutes late, fuck you, you missed it, go home! I rode my bike home from work tonight and was stopped at a light and about to go, when this woman at the cross walk decided that instead of walking forward, she would stop and put her hand out and say "go ahead" to me while standing in my way because she inexplicably thought I was turning. just fucking go, walk across the god damn street like you're supposed to, and you wouldn't be in my way! she stole my momentum, if I tried to go I would fall because of the incline, so I just got off the bike and said "this is too awkward now", and she was like, "I can't hear you", and I wanted to be like "FUCK YOU JUST WALK FORWARD LIKE YOU ARE SUPPOSED TO YOU FUCKING MORON!" But then I'd be the asshole. No one drives forward when the light is green. No one pays attention to ANYTHING around them anymore. I see grown ass men and women start pushing a stroller with a baby in it to cross the street when the DON'T WALK sign lights up and then they're like "oh no, oh well, I'll just cross, they'll stop." WHAAAT! Just fucking stop, stop the dumb! I can't take it anymore!!!!

I had a bad day today. haha.
