YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

I'm getting my Beasties tattoo, and in honor of Yauch, it will be lyrics from 'A Year and a Day.' However, I need to know, are the lyrics:

"or for a week or for a year or for a year IN a day"

OR

"or for a week or for a year or for a year AND a day"

They seem to have very different meanings, to me anyway.

Anybody know FOR SURE? Many different sources cite different things.

HELP!

thanks

Re: YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

Paul's Boutique has the lyrics printed on the inside cover.

But I think it's this.

Or for a week, or for a year, or for a year in a day
Come what may...

i don't think Year and a Day is in cd lyrics booklet...it came seperately with the CYH mail-in lyrics...and i think it's AND....

According to Beastiemania it's 'AND'

Re: YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

I think its safe to assume it's "year AND a day" especially since that's the title of the song.

it's definitely AND

Why would A Year and a Day lyrics come with CYH mail-in lyrics? I'm honestly asking. I never heard of this.

Cuz all the PB lyric sheet had was "He goes by the name of Disco Dave" and you could finally get all the AYAAD lyrics mailed to you in 1992. I opted in, it was a photocopied sheet in the style of the PB lyric sheet, IIRC.

Re: YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

Also keep in mind that there are lots of places in the lyrics sheets where the lyrics don't necessarily match up with what's actually said on the album. I still think this is "a year AND a day" though.

did the band ever release official lyrics for Ill Communication?

does anyone remember the board/website around 2000, when the Sounds of Science was released?

I seem to remember lyrics were here on the site, even color coded by band member.

the lyric on websites out there that bothers/confuses me is on Root Down- "If Dancin' Prays to the lord then I will feel alright."

that makes no sense whatsoever.

the line is a direct reference to Bob Marley, who sang "Give Thanks and Praise to the Lord and I will feel alright"

also, the lyric about Anthony Mason- "listen all y'all you get the ball bath"

the fuck is that? I thought it was "get the ball back"
I wish MCA were around to clear that up :(

The lyrics are printed in the sleeve of the CD

I think a ball bath is probably exactly what it sounds like.

(y) thanks, I've been living too long in the digital world. And both of my questions above are confirmed by this? I don't know what probably exactly sounds like, but as mentioned sometimes they're printed differently .

Thoughts on the Root Down Bob Marley lyrical question?

Re: YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

I just checked the LP lyrics and it also says "If Dancin' Prays to the Lord then I will feel alright" but there's no way he says that. I agree with you about "Give Thanks and Praise to the Lord and I will feel alright." It's weird when officially published lyrics get that stuff wrong.

I always thought they liked fuckin' around with the lyrics. It is a great cover for an artist when they cannot remember them.

Read the Paul's Boutique lyric sheet, there's all types of stuff in there that doesn't match what they say on the wax.

Re: YEAR AND A DAY LYRICS CLARIFICATION

I've only ever heard "if dancing prays to The Lord then I will feel alright". Just figured it was intentionally a play on the reference done polysyllabically.

Give thanks and praise to The Lord might have been too preachy? Maybe the same reason he never did the ask god for a rhyme or two verse off Alright Hear This after 95.

A lot of people assume he says fingers running down my bass because I love to do it. Make sense assumptively, and people are going to hear what they're going to hear, I guess.

The line makes sense to me if you read like so:

'If Dancing is a Prayer to the Lord, Then I will be Alright Because I Dance A Lot'

If this is the correct interpretation, then the lyric is an indirect reference to Bob Marley's lyric combined with a Buddhist philosophy on the function of dance. See below:

The "get the ball bath" part is about golf. The ball bath to clean the golf balls. They talked about golf in a couple spots on that song.

played Year and a Day for the family last night at dinner.

I know its hard for you to believe, but the amount of miss-heard lyrics and what I thought was being said vs the lyric sheet is full on embarrassing. Luckily your not 100% tapped into my head and dont know how far off I was on more than one line.

Anyway, great song. The kids always like it, but they go to the next level for Hello Brooklyn when it goes off.
