BEYOND THE STREETS & Goldenvoice are pleased to announce EXHIBIT, the world’s most comprehensive survey of the iconic New York City music trio, Beastie Boys, opening December 10, 2022 at BEYOND THE STREETS and CONTROL Gallery in Los Angeles. Born from the sonic irreverence of hardcore and punk, blended with the bawdy and rebellious sounds of emergent hip-hop, New York City spawned a different kind of monster when it created Beastie Boys. Featuring heavy metal musicians and skaters in their videos, while blending theater and comedy into their performances, and enlisting the hands of artists Cey Adams and Eric Haze in creating their logos, the alchemy of Adam Horovitz, Adam Yauch and Michael Diamond transformed their music from grooves on wax to a sweeping cultural force—influencing expressions of art, style and activism for generations to come. “The story of punk rock, hip-hop, skateboarding and graffiti wouldn’t be complete without a chapter on Beastie Boys and the inedible mark they made on a movement that harmoniously merged the worlds of music and youth culture into a soundscape and experience all of its own. There's a 5-volume zine set of the pieces in the exhibit. The zines split up by album erra, Licensed to Ill through Hello Nasty.

The books by Beastie Boys, Spike Jonze, and Glen Friedman are all available and overpriced, but there’s an ABA Basketball for $60 that I might grab while supplies last, and they have all of the sold out Super 7 action figures and some decent BTS branded and non branded Beastie Boys shirts and hats.

i think this message board is close to death...
the 5 zines were delivered yesterday. Honestly might be the best beastie related thing i've ever purchased. those pics i shared don't do this collection justice. even the lyric notebooks and the way they are printed in these books, and they are books not zines. highly recommended. might be better than seeing this stuff in person. I never knew that the late Rick Menello wrote a TV pilot for The Beastie Boys called "The Beastie Boys Get Stupid". I always heard about the "Scared Stupid" film that was shelved, but I didn't know they were trying to get a TV show. No video, but I took some photos on the way and while I was there in LA last weekend. Got to talk to Roger Gastman for a few minutes. :) Lots of cool stuff. If you can make it out, it's free, and going away soon.

When I see these Paul's Boutique lyrics hand written like this it makes me wonder if some of these songs or verses were written individually, or always as a group. Cause I always imagined them throwing out rhymes together and writing together. I just wonder, like with the Beatles, you think of them collaborating, but you always kinda know, this is a Paul song, this is a John song, etc.
