Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

Interesting Eagle fact:

Did you know that the Bald eagle does not actually attain it's magnificent white head plumage until they are 4-6 years old?...Therefore they can often be mistaken as being their close cousin the American Gold Eagle, don't feel bad if you've made such a folly,it's quite common amongst amateurs...

It's true, now you know...I'll be happy to answer any other birding inquiry's you may have, your pal Moot...

Dear Moot.

How many bald eagles would it take to lift a cow if they all attacked at once?

I also apologise if I've already spoilt the thread

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

Dear Adam,

I do not see that as a likely scenario...however,American cattle ranchers often used to shoot eagles during the first half of the century and even beyond...There was a wildy fictional belief that Eagles could actually pick up calves...Really this was founded in the fact that Eagles could be seen feeding on calf carcasses that had died of natural causes during the spring breeding and roundup season...As a sidebar I witnessed a bald eagle drown in the Pacific Ocean after it picked up a massive sockeye salmon, could not lift it,could not shake talons loose...Additionally I once saw a eagle flying with a captured rattlesnake in it's talons...that was most excellent...

How good are Eagle eyes?

Plus have you ever watched Eagleheart on Adult Swim?

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

Eagles can see small prey from about a mile up with ease...there eyes are actually about the same size as ours...also like their jurrasic ancestors they have a super trick membrane that acts like a squegee or window wiper that moves from side to side like a second eye lid...

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

I'm still watching these eagles, I heard from someone that Eagle parents start to be pretty rude once the chicks/ eaglets? get big. They want them gone so they make the nest pretty uncomfortable.

Yet these punks are still sponging from the nest.

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

They tend to split at 13 to 15 weeks,so anyday now,kids...they never return to the nest again but the parents will use the same nest, year after year...

In 3’s...

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

That nest is getting tight...

also today while i watched somebody was actually pivoting the cam around (hopefully from a remote station) so for the first time I saw the lay of the land and a few farmhouses.

How did this all come about? Who put the cam up there (and how did they do it?) and who is toggling the cam around?

Re: Toptally Awesome Bald Eagle Cam...

^ Not really sure...But I imagine they have to have state or federal approval as I’m quite sure it’s a crime to disturb nest sites...it’s remote,I want, control, remote,I want,control...additionally here is a link to a Osprey cam on one of the rivers here...osprey are often misnamed or thought of as”fish hawks”...where as they are actually Eagles...true stuff...
