Dorothy - the bank of the river is round in ariel view so the deck sits on a concrete parapet for about 2-3m before it reaches the bank edge. It's also cantilevered at both ends too. The arch is on a pin support meaning it's free to rotate (but won't in, say, the wind because of its own weight) so there is no resultant moment dislodging it from the river bank. Under it's own weight, it takes the sag of the bridge deck (which was small anyway) and keeps the cables tense. Basically no matter what the load, the force tending to dislodge the arch at its base is always zero. It'll rotate around the pin, but never by much, and will never fall over because of the angle it sits at with no load on the bridge. The span is only 30m so the deck itself would be fine without the arch, but it looks nice and stuff.

So there.

I made a necklace of leaves last Thursday. It was just for one night and I forgot to take a pic of it (had some more important things to do that night ;) )

Re: ARTS THREAD

I really like that style, zorra.

right now I'm still practicing getting realism down. Mainly because the video game art thing sometimes requires it, though I'm sure one of these days I'll get around to tweaking things a bit on a canvas since I just got a lovely easel (y)

yeah it was a classmate in one of my drawing classes :) wish I had the photo. 8x10 and I drew it on this huge paper, at least 24"+ something like that. Gracias.

I really like the style of your portrait though, a lot. a lot!

i do everything messy and can't hold my hands still, so thats basically how the style came about. i also like to rush drawings - i like the immediacy. one day i hope to be a court room sketch artist, but that's probably not gonna happen.

I think the style you've ended up with works out well (y)
