And although it may seem a tad superfluous, the picture strikes me as sort of a kindred to the Mona Lisa (but with better definition in the subject's jaw, higher cheek bones, and the presence of horrible lighting), acting as sort of a bridge between the Renaissance and the modern age. Her gaze is at once alluring, haunting, unknowing, and vulnerable. There is regret in her eyes and subtle apathy in her smile.
