Nothing is wrong with Torrance, just crackin yo ribs.
Try to get to downtown l.a. at night if possible on a Friday or Saturday night. A mix of people going out, a new family scene, and a number of homeless. There are roof top bars, some old school pubs, crazy art galleries and randomness.
I know a number of places to drink and eat down there if you are looking for something specific.
