I saw that Mythbusters as well (me who rarely watches telly...). But you should keep the lid down anyway. According to Feng Shui you flush the good energy from your flat/house every time you flush the toilet + you can drop things down there that can crack the porcelain and it'll cost you a lot to get a new toilet (talking of experience here.... just a tiny crack from dropping a mascara or something, but enough to water to leak through every time flushing....)
