Default A Small Chat With Yauch

I caught Adam's Q&A Session at the Apple Store tonight for Gunnin' For That #1 Spot. After the Q&A I was able to have a quick 1 minute chat with him about stuff I didn't want to clog up time with in the official Q&A.

Basically,

The boys are currently recording a new album of all original material. This is a totally new project, not part II of The Mix Up. He told me that project (Mix Up II) may never really get off the ground. There are some artists that expressed interest in working on it (M.I.A., Snoop Dogg, and some other person I forgot the name of) but they're not thinking about it right now.

Secondly, the footage shot at the Gala event hasn't even been looked at yet. He said he hasn't had the time to sit down and really take a look at what they got but the footage WILL be used for something at some point. He didn't know whether or not it will be a self-contained concert film or if only pieces of it will be used for something else.

I wish I could have asked him more of the burning questions we all have but there were a whole gang of people waiting behind me to get a chance to talk to him so I didn't want to take up too much of his time.

I also had to thank him on behalf of all of the folks who were at the Terminal 5 show in March for playing Rhymin' And Stealin.

Either way, the whole public Q&A was filmed and should be available for free (I presume) on iTunes sometime soon. Adam talked about "Gunnin'" a lot (obviously) and he touched on AIFST as well as a bunch of the Beasties' music videos. All in all, it was pretty fucking fascinating and i'm actually pretty shocked at the low turnout of people. I guess it wasn't hyped enough, not a lot of people really knew about it.

Did anyone else from here go?

Nice work bro. Updates are so sparse round these parts as of late, anything about new music straight from the horse's mouth is good news. You asked the truly burning questions as well in such a short little chat. boing.

Yep, I was there --pretty cool event. This is probably the most relaxed I've seen Yauch in an interview.... he told us about rhyming to his daughter the night before when he put her to bed... his dad's disapproval of his graffiti practice back in the day...

Glad that MKV came with the report... I didn't speak with Yauch so don't have much to add really. Oh, and photos weren't allowed during the Q&A(sorry, Klepto)

Was that meeting off the fly or did you know that a time clock was ticking?

I met Paul Bostaph, from Forbidden, Slayer, Exodus, and Testament and all I could say was "Hey Man, I saw you like 10 Years Ago. You were with Slayer doing a signing in Gwinnett, GA. 666 Days Before the Olympics. And he said "Nope: Don't Remember It"

I Felt Like an Ass. I want3d to challenge him to an armwrestling match after that conversation. At least that would be something that would be remembered: Win or Lose

I showed up- straight from work to so I had my crazy work clothes on. I remember feeling very much like a psycho fan right before he came out- I mean this wasn't a Beastie Boy thing per say so what the hell was I doing, stalking the guy? But I was very glad I went afterwards as it was very interesting to hear what he had to say about directing (specifically about the Beastie Boy projects) and he definitely confirmed that they are hard at work making a new album (so just stay patient...), which was nice to hear. All in all very enjoyable- and I agree Yauch was very calm and in a very jokey mood- it was fun.

As he was doing the Q&A, I knew I wanted to ask those questions but they felt out of place considering this was all supposed to be for "Gunnin.." so I was hoping right as he finished up, I could catch him by the side. But as luck would have it, 20 other people thought the same thing and he was nice enough to stay after and talk to us all individually, sign some things and take some pictures. I didn't want to seem like I was grilling the dude so I just asked him the important shit, snapped a quick pic and moved along.

i did! went with izzy. i liked it. it was cool to hear him talking mainly as a filmmaker, and he was really forthcoming. one future-project-related thing of note is he mentioned that after 2 docs he'd most likely want to work on a narrative film next. to that end he mentioned the screenplay that he co-wrote with lee quinones (who was there & stood to applause). so stay tuned for yauch the screenwriter ...

funniest moment is when one fan spoke for a bit about the beastie boys' cultural influence . . . and yauch summed it up with a deadpan "so you're saying we put the R in retarded." let's see scorcesse work that into a Q&A.

Then say something about the Yellowship tapes then ask why does he still live in Amerca..BKK is a Great Place
