Yelawolf paid tribute to Adam Yauch with a three-song Beastie Boys medley during his Bonnaroo set yesterday (June 7th). Here's an interview with him about the tribute:

http://www.fuse.tv/2012/06/yelawolf-...-bonnaroo-2012

Quote:
But the best part came with a dedication to the Beastie Boys: a medley of "Fight For Your Right," "Brass Monkey," "Intergalactic," and "Paul Revere" that found Yela doing a loving impression of MCA and the others while the audience chanted the name of the recently deceased rapper.

...one might say that the Beastie Boy "Fight for Your Right to Party" guy is a hypocrite. Well, maybe; but in this fucked up world all you can hope for is change, and I'd rather be a hypocrite to you than a zombie forever.

The Rock & Roll Hall of Fame show on HBO was dedicated to him, they put his picture up at the end.

Saturday Night Live played a Yauch verse from the Beastie's performance of Sure Shot on SNL in 94.

when Jimmy Fallon introduces The Roots on Fridays monologue, Questlove takes MCA's "respect to women" verse from Sure Shot and finishes with "MCA Rest in Peace... the sure shot" at the 4:00 mark

http://www.latenightwithjimmyfallon....-2012/1399990/

it's been so hard to keep up with all the links and news stories, I've been online the last few days rather than tuning in to broadcast and cable outlets. I hear they play the So Whatcha want Clip and honor Yauch but I haven't seen the whole thing yet.

edit: around the 13:00 mark when they come back from break Jimmy adds one more "Thank You" to his list, holding tears back and simply said "I love him"

and of course the Roots play Beastie Boys in and out of all commercial breaks.

Adam "MCA" Yauch leaves behind a throng of mourning fans, and those who knew the Beastie Boys member personally have continued to share their final messages. Yauch's pals Madonna and Mix Master Mike shared their goodbyes with MTV News. "The Beastie Boys were one of a kind! And so was Adam! They were all an important part of my musical history. And integral to the musical revolution that was happening at the time," mega-star Madonna said in statement obtained by MTV News after Yauch passed away on Friday (May 4) after a long battle with cancer. "I'm very sad to hear about Adam's passing. G*D bless him and his family."

Madge included the Beasties as an opening act on her 1985 The Virgin Tour. Madonna had already established herself as a formidable pop act with her first two LPs and the Beasties were just getting started. Their iconic debut album License To Ill wouldn't come until a year later.

Mix Master Mike didn't start out a Beastie, but his legacy before his work with the Boys is well documented. A world champion turntabilist, Mike got the call to work with the Beastie Boys on their 1998 Grammy Award winning album Hello Nasty and has been rocking with the trio ever since. He too was hit particularly hard after Yauch's death. "The music world has lost an Icon and i lost a brother. I give thanks to Adam Yauch for allowing me to be apart of the Beastie legacy. I am so honored to have graced the stage with my idols for 15 historic years," he said in a statement issued to MTV News. "Thank U for your friendship and thank you for picking me to be your DJ. forever I will hold you close to my heart. My Condolences go out to the Yauch family."

There were a number of tributes on Friday night. During Coldplay's concert at Hollywood Bowl last night, Chris Martin and company performed a slowed down, piano-laden rendition of of the Beastie Boys' anthemic "(You Gotta) Fight for Your Right (to Party)."

The Red Hot Chili Peppers also paid their respects during their show at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey on Friday. "We're playing this show tonight for Adam Yauch," RHCP frontman Anthony Kiedis said to the crowd as reported by Rolling Stone.

Yauch didn't just inspire musicians, last night during their home baseball game against the Arizona Diamondbacks the entire New York Mets team paid tribute to the fallen Brooklynite by playing the Beastie's music as they each walked up to the plate.

Swedish (very important, at least used to be) music journalist Andres Lokko Beastie Boys changed my life

Translation (with google-translate so it might read a bit funny):

STOCKHOLM
A friend in high school gave me a C90 cassette with The Beastie Boys Licence to ill on one side and RUN DMCs Raising Hell on the other.

- This is something completely new and you will never listen to music the same way again, he said confidently.

It was 1986 and as a cocky teenager I didn’t take him seriously. But he was absolutely right. That tape changed in so many ways my whole life.

I know that music journalists have the ability to use just that the wording a little too often, sometimes without really thinking. But this tape set for the first time the door wide for hip hop. At least for me, and it seldom left my Walkman in the school hallway in Jacob's school.

This cassette also changed what I had called rap to hip hop. And as a rather lonely modernist, with a head full of arguments about pop music, and without anyone to really share them, I could not stop listening.

This was the future. So it seemed. Everything happened almost exactly the same time: The Style Council and Robert Elms made me discover modern contemporary soul, The Pet Shop Boys and David Toop did the same for house music and the Beastie Boys and Stuart Cosgrove was the portal to New York with its hip-hop and street fashion there was no turning back from where you've gone into it.

All the pilgrimages to the Beastie Boys store for clothing label X-Large at Lafayette in New York - and whence came the furious sampled flutes on Check your head? Forever so underrated album Paul's Boutique, their ingenious magazine Grand Royal, and world domination that followed.

Somewhere in the late 1990's, Beastie Boys and me lost the connection. We grew in different directions but respect for their original offense, I will never lose.

Adam Yauch, better known as MCA, the so-handsome graying third of The Beastie Boys, lost his three-year battle with cancer on Friday. He was 47 years old and thus was the same age as me when he first received his diagnosis.

As a new father in the same generation are affected perhaps harder than the injustice and sadness of such a kind-hearted champion of Tibet's freedom - and also the father of a young daughter - snatched away before their time.

When I just the other week was unpacking a cardboard box after moving I found a small box of old photos, saved postcards and letters from long ago. At the bottom of it there was a Rolex replica from X-Large.

The battery of course, had run out since several years, the hands had stopped at a quarter to seven. But this afternoon it is me who takes it to the first best watchrepairer and wear it like an armband in memory of Adam Yauch.

Pelosi Statement on the Passing of Adam Yauch

Democratic Leader Nancy Pelosi issued the following statement on the passing of Adam Yauch, 47, a founding member of the Beastie Boys and an advocate for the people of Tibet:

"As an artist, Adam Yauch changed the course of music; as a humanitarian, he changed lives. He was a creative genius who used his powerful platform and celebrity to address the cause of human rights for the people of Tibet. Adam Yauch was devotee of His Holiness the Dalai Lama and an agent of change.

http://dccc.org/blog/entry/10598/

"Adam Yauch's concerts raised awareness on campuses across the country; what a beautiful sight it was in 1996, when he drew 100,000 people to Golden Gate Park in San Francisco for a concert to benefit the cause of freedom in Tibet. His knowledge of issues and his activism were deeply rooted in his values.

"I hope it is a comfort to the many who loved and admired Adam, especially his wife Dechen and his daughter Tenzin, that so many grieve their loss and are praying for them at this sad time."

Hello,
I'm new and just want to pay my respects to MCA. I have loved the Beastie Boys since they first came out in the mid 80's over here in Ireland. I am the same age as MCA and just cannot believe he is gone. Back in the 80's we had no internet of course and hardly ever saw them on tv. So we heard them played on the radio and bought the records. Their music was (and still is) so uplifting.
This past weekend i have been looking at dozens of videos on youtube, videos we never had the opportunity to watch back then. And mourning the loss of lovely, lovely Adam Yauch. (Gawd, why can't we find a cure for this scourge that is cancer?!!)

Anyway, I found this lovely tribute by a dj here in Ireland, telling about the day he spent with the boys back in 95. Thought you guys might enjoy reading it.

Default Intergalactic Brass Monkey - International Event Saturday

Hey Everyone,

Some of us got together and are quickly working our asses off arranging a simultaneous international event for this Saturday called "Intergalactic Brass Monkey Pour For Our Homie" in honor and commemorance of MCA. Yes, no kidding, the event name is that long. Please check out or FB page "Intergalactic Brass Monkey", join the page, sign yourself up for the event and then send invites to all your friends on FB (you may be surprised how many of your friends are BB fans but the subject never came up). We also set up a Twitter account - @Galactic_Monkey you can follow on there and help spread the word to others who'd be interested in the event. Basically post about this everywhere in all languages you know. We don't have much time left to invite the entire galaxy -- We need you!!

Oh, yeah, the page is also a place where anyone can post anything BB and MCA related. One subject of interest is to hear people's best BB stories. Also, there's some debate about which Brass Monkey "recipe" was the one of their choosing. Love to get an answer to that... Finally, we're hoping people record their memorial parties and share them with us to post next week so we can all see each other's faces.

That's all for now, but don't be surprised when I repost about this so that people reading at different times of day have a chance to find out about the event. Feel free to ask me anything you can't find on the page or anything at all...

Peace & Love

Intergalactic Brass Monkey

To answer your question, "JC" are my initials, they have not told me of a religious affiliation...
