You on the other hand got it totally wrong. What does being a nerdy douchebag feel like?

In fact, most times he gets at a beat, he demolishes it. For me that carries much more weight in judging his influence and skills than the actual music he releases, if only because he's simply that good as an MC that he makes his own garbage output irrelevant. He's probably the best rapper living.

![]() I mean, the challenge is seeing past the bullshit music he has made. Listen to the second half of that cypher verse, it's pretty incredible. Yes I think Royce was more entertaining, but Em has dropped numerous feature verses and freestyles which are of such a high calibre...well, you get the point.
Compare him to a group like the Beastie Boys, obviously their strength is in their ability to be entertaining and just make music that feels right. It's a whole different thing, much more tacit.

![]() Agreed. He can make some corny pop songs but also murder beats like no one else.
Check out his last two Westwood freestyles. The kid is zoned out. Last edited by Micodin : 10-18-2011 at 06:53 PM. |

![]() straight up artistry 'in the raw' and the ability to create a 'piece of art' are two very different things', though equally significant and vital.
it's the whole 'live art' vs 'crafted art' balance. spontaneity vs manipulation. eminem will never record a piece of work like a Bboy record (IMO), just as the Bboys will never tout the natural lyrical prowess that Eminem yields (IMO). but both skills are divine nonetheless. it's the varying balance between the innate and contrived within any given artist that really chisels there own individuality. some are purely one or the other, but most straddle a personalized line somewhere in between. music is great, isn't it? ![]()

![]() I won’t say I don’t think Eminem isn’t talented because I’d be crucified for that one and anyway I do think he is a great lyricist… it’s just his voice I don’t like. It always reminded me of Fran Drescher. I guess I am just all about the voice and I know that I am in the minority. Oh well.

![]() Honestly hadn’t noticed a change since I rarely listen to him. I know the experts say his old music is better and I agree to some extent.... but as an artist I just don’t think he’s evolved all that much. Yeah he moves on with the times and I guess that’s why he’s so successful in the mainstream… I can’t say I like only the lighter side of hip hop because I am a fan of Tupac, Cypress Hill and grew up listening to the Ghetto Boys. Their lyrics were violent but I loved THEM!!! So anyway I am rambling, I just hate the dude’s voice!

![]() I hear you though. I know as an artist gets older their voice or vocal range can get better if they take care of it. I am just ready to see hip hop expand a little. It use to be so diverse and for the past several years it’s all the same. Everybody walks to the beat of the same drum. I get bored with it. I think that’s why I prefer such old school because there is that experimentation with sounds and things like that. But that’s another topic! ![]() Anyway Eminem appreciates the Beasties so I try not to be too critical but I was just never a fan.

![]() cosign on best rapper alive. I don't care to dissect the minute details of why I say this because I can't defend it (nor do I care to). Suffice it to say IMHO he rocks it better than anyone I have ever heard.

![]() Em's albums are all pretty weak/pop other than his first and parts of his second like most of you have said. But his underground battles/ freestyles disses are probably the best lyrically and creatively ive ever heard. i cant stand his albums, but am always amazed at how sick his battle rhymes are, especially soon after he came out when he was beefing with that bitch ass benzino. the stuff he says is hilarious, plus it flows so well and its super hardcore dissing. if i were a rapper i would not want to battle him because he is just gonna make a fool of you no matter who you are.

ugh, this makes me so angry. I know it shouldn't, but these lists are such shit. it's like erasing the legacy of hip-hop from the chalkboard for young fans. I know these television producers are simply trying to "reach" the youthful audience, but what the fuck!?! what message are they giving out? that bad rap is good rap? fuckin whores. ![]()
