![]() “Like a Version” is a Friday-morning segment on the Australian radio station Triple J, where artists play live versions of some of their favourite songs.
Aussie hip hop group the Hilltop Hoods paid tribute to MCA with their version of “So What’cha Want”. The interview at the start is pretty great (0:13). Interesting to see a two-way division of the lyrics. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dY8vf4RWNE4&feature=plcp IMO they fucken nailed it. Didn’t attempt to replicate/mimic the original (impossible feat); just stuck to their own style. I thought it worked. ( ![]() ![]() Also – the rounded Australia pronunciation of “can’t”……. @ 1:46 ie……..“you cahrn’t front on THAT”………....….made me grin. ![]() ![]() ![]() |

so maybe a lot of you guys have seen this now but i just found and watched it for the first time yesterday - awesome tribute video to MCA — http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cBVGo...ure=plpp_video and also, check out this new video of this guy, pretty distinct style from the Beasties, but he's singing at a lot of different spots in NYC, including a couple of the new MCA murals - check 1:50 and 3:02 for starters also the Confucius statue in Chinatown and happy dancing kids at 3:45 - there's a line or two in here that remind me of "why do politicians always want to fight?" from "we got the" from to the 5 boroughs also i think Yauch and the guys would like the statue of Gandhi from Union Square Park in NYC (1:38) interesting stuff

The music I used in the video is a homemade mix of a few Beastie tracks. I did it in a hurry on the day he died and it’s pretty dodgy as a result. Not my best work. I wish I could’ve done better but……..under the circumstances……..whatcha gonna do? The original track is called “A Year And A Day”. Yauch recorded it in Koreatown, LA, wearing a tricked out jet pilot’s helmet. True story. If you want a copy, call Paul's Boutique and ask for Janice. Their number is 718-498-1043. ;-) I used the instrumental version, too, which you can find here http://www.beastiemixes.com/acappellas.php on the sensational Beastiemixes.com website, hosted by the legend himself, Silence7. He’s charming, he’s dashing………he’s rental car bashing. BTW – it is very nice to meet you! I love to see a new username………….Beastiefans unite, aiite? ![]() |

![]() This has its own thread but it deserves to be here, too:
The Lives They Lived (New York Times) http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2...h&ref=magazine Accompanying video: The Music They Made: A Sampling of Songs From Artists Who Died in 2012 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c4Sf-RRpDLs Our man’s at 2:31. Wait til you hear the lyric they selected for him. I guess it’s an obvious choice, but it’s yet to be matched in terms of impact. I must have listened to it a million times but it still has the power to make my heart stop. MCA is the youngest on the list (bar one). Ouch. From the article: "Even after he was given a diagnosis of parotid-gland cancer three years ago, the idea of a world without Ad-Rock and Mike D passing the mic to Yauch seemed inconceivable. It shouldn’t have been. Rock history — human history, really — is full of evidence that we’re not here long, that we should get our houses in order and do something of value with our time. The lesson of Yauch’s life was that it is possible to make that happen." <3 |
