Default 50 Cal Getdown

Heads up that Mixmaster Mike is dropping his new album for free soon. The track 50 Cal Getdown features MCA. Whether it’s the old snippet recently shared or something else is to be seen. I assume most are aware, but in the off chance you’re not......

I find it really odd that MMM is the one releasing something from the ‘vault’ of posthumous stuff first. When it does eventually get released, I mean.

The song will contain a verse from MCA, still wondering when it will be released.

I keep checking for an update and the only thing I've found is that it will be released on 12/6/19 and you can preorder it in CD form (2xcd that is) at roughtrade.com. I ordered it mostly out of curiosity/possibly limited edition(?), but hope to be able to download it for free besides earlier, but who knows?

This does not look good for Homestar Runner.

I saw Mix Master Mike live in Dublin two weeks ago and right at the top of the show he mentioned having MCA on his new record. He said that the vocals were recorded back in the Hello Nasty era and that he went above management and sought Dechen Yauch’s blessing to use it. Legend.

For anyone who wants to hear a snippet, he previewed a little bit on Instagram a few months ago. https://youtu.be/lhxmSh-X_8Y

The link to the album on Rough Trade’s UK site seems to have been cleared, but you can still see it on the US store.

Interesting, because by MMM labelling it ‘Yauch’s last song’ it sort of implied that it was at least one of the final things he recorded.

Yeah same here, threw me a bit. Maybe some interviews closer to the release date will clarify. I also may have misheard him, but I doubt it.

That’s a very good point! I don’t think we do, and we won’t know for sure until the album is released in December.

So what you’re saying is potentially we have two songs. That snippet might be using vocals by Yauch from the Hot Sauce/Post Hot Sauce era, while 50 Cal Getdown could be a whole other thing!

One is the last song he worked on, the other uses HN Vox, yes. He could have worked on/revisited old stuff post HSC. They did record a bunch of stuff they’d already demo-ed.

Someone asked in the Instagram comments and MMM replied that it’s gonna be in there. So not exactly sure why it isn’t listed.

Thank You Adam Yauch

ok, after further research, Roughdraft commented on the post and said “the amazing track with MCA is on the bonus mix cd. we can confirm” and mmm said the same to someone else’s question.

so, it’s in the dj mix version of the album, on a cd, and not a separate track like previously listed which is kind of disappointing. especially if you wanted that song on wax. either way i’m looking forward to hearing it.

I received my copies of the album on vinyl and CD yesterday. I briefly scanned through the bonus CD trying to find this track, but as the tracks weren’t broken up individually it proved rather difficult.

I couldn’t find the snippet that MMM played on the video above, but I did find a short segment with Yauch delivering maybe a single verse? It sounded very muffled, which I suppose makes sense if it came from a demo tape. It was accompanied by Yauch playing Gratitude live with extra fuzzy bass. I’m assuming that was it? I’ll listen again tonight, had to rush out last night to see Star Wars.

i'm going tonight at 6, no spoilers i'm on media blackout. i read a few things from the premiere, some really nasty comments and some really lovely ones. kinda over toxic fandom because...just can't win. i feel sorry for people in the spotlight who put their hearts and souls into art like this, only to be dismantled by a very small yet very toxic group of manbabies who can't get over the fact it's just a fucking movie.

thank you adam adam & mike
