Mix Master Mike in the studio with Kid Rock
MMM posted some photos to IG of himself on a call with Kid Rock and also some shots of himself at the mixing desk with Mr Rock.
Not the collaboration I expected. https://ibb.co/hBnFv0g https://ibb.co/pdPjDC1 |

Mike was making a lot of money on Beastie tours. I imagine he looks at it as work. To try and maintain lifestyle.

Re: Mix Master Mike in the studio with Kid Rock
I ain't mad at it. Mike D did that story on Kid Rock for GR a gazillion years ago. Questlove had Kid Rock perform for BBoys R&RHOF induction. There is clearly some connection there. (side note, you had LL and Chuck D in the building. Missed opportunity)
am I gonna listen to it? No. Did I rock Bawitaba when it came out? yes. I'm more bothered by the perception the MMM completely changed BBoys studio sound when he joined the band. Dude was on 8 tracks on HN. He was doing lead scratches. He wasn't building the beats and in many cases Adrock and MCA's scratches are layered w/ MMMs. He is a great live DJ - though. don't get me wrong. I prefer him to any other tour DJ they had. Dude has to eat though and maybe he and Kid Rock have a nice surprise for us. But probably not. I would not mind being wrong on this.

From a touring perspective, he 100% completely changed their tour sound. I don't know how much of a hand the Beasties had in the concept of things, but he executed well and I'm not sure anybody else could have fit that bill. |

Totally agree! I did forget to mention he obviously built the 3 MC's beat, live no less(?) He is an insanely talented musician and DJ, and I'm glad for what he brought to the table, live and on record. Absolutely it lined up w/ Bboys were doing futuristically on HN. I like a lot of the breaks on TT5Bs that he did as well, and even though i love that album it started to feel formulaic by the end of the record. I'm not sure how much of a hand he had on the last two albums. Nothing sticks out to me wildly as "oh yeah that's MMM". Anyways, he is a great DJ. Did anybody get to catch him on tour w/ Cypress Hill some years back? I bet that was awesome.
