Yeah, I'm quite happy with it.

It's a Fujifilm S5000 in case you care or if it means anything to you.

Perhaps Cosmo would be able to confirm since she loves them cameras.

Hmmmm.... maybe it was $300-400 (Canadian)? Memory is a bit foggy there.

Mine isn't very much higher than 2.0 megapixels though....

Fuji usually has decent lenses and 2.0 megapixel is MORE than enough if you mostly post on the net. You can even print the pictures at a decent quality.

THAT IS ALL

seriously though, i don't know shit about consumer cheap digital cameras. i'm more up on the analog "wet" photography range. i do know a bit about the super high-end digital ones, but i doubt any of us has a spare 20k lying around for one.

internet = 72dpi. Who cares about your camera resolution for posting pictures?

more resolution is just wasting bandwidth. And making the Gods of the internet very cross.

And they will spank you like a bad, bad donkey, okay?

I'm not a photographer or anything but I think this still applies, unless you want to print them in a large format that is.

Good stuff.

Sony makes lovely stuff but be prepared for intrusive software and proprietary memory sticks.

The only reason I want a new camera is because mine is very very old, has a small screen and takes forever to load the flash when the battery isn't fully charged. Very annoying, especially during concerts.

Does take nice pictures though!

I got myself the latest Sony 5,1 mp with a 2,5" screen and Zeiss lens. I've already found faults with it (I'm also used to manual system cameras and miss mine as hell). It's got difficulties focusing at concerts because of the smoke and lights and it's got difficulties focusing on really small and thin items (flowers and stems mainly). I wanna make a book sometime (garden book of course, I've been missing books about shrubs and climbers for this climate), so I've been taking very high-res pics with that in mind.

Never needed any software for my sony's. usb driver, yes. Software, no.

edit- ahh you're talking handicam. yeah software....plus my boss's broke. it doesnt suprise me when he takes it on ski boats and shit. photographing with handicam is waste of time.

I don't really have other digital cameras at my disposal to do countless tests with so I can only say that so far I'm pretty happy with the DSC-717. I use it at work for photographing new products and putting them on the web, and for that it works perfectly.
