Here is an interesting way to judge the peacefulness of an entire Nation in a relative way with it's neighboring Nations, from the The Economist Intelligence Unit comes the
Global Peace Index.
121 Countries were factored into an equation using twenty four different criteria in the formula such as domestic violent crime, heavy-handed internal security, size of prison population, relations with neighboring countries, the number of wars a country was involved in during the past five years, how many soldiers were killed overseas, and how much money was made in arms sales. All factors were considered equal.
The
US ranked pretty low which of course was expected and a common theme runs through the
index, freedom of press and ideas promotes a healthy nation.
