Default Beastie Boys Sign Memoir Deal

Well once again Hood had the info early on. It's now announced in New York Times.

The book, to be edited by the hip-hop journalist Sacha Jenkins, will be loosely structured as an oral history. It will also have contributions by other writers, as well as a strong visual component. Ms. Grau and Luke Janklow, the group’s agent, both compared it to Grand Royal, the Beastie Boys’ acclaimed but short-lived magazine in the 1990s, which explored some of its wide-ranging pop-culture interests with curiosity and snark. “The first words out of Mike’s mouth were, ‘I don’t want to do a straight memoir,’ ” said Mr. Janklow, of the firm Janklow & Nesbit.

Mr. Janklow said he had been in discussions with the group several years ago about the possibility of a book, but they were set aside as the third Beastie Boy, Adam Yauch, known as MCA, began to suffer from cancer of the salivary gland; he died last year at 47.
“After Yauch died, I didn’t push them,” Mr. Janklow said, “but I think that

Adam and Mike ended up realizing that it was the right time for them.” A spokesman for the Beastie Boys did not respond to a request for comment.

Sacha's ego trip magazine was really funny, the website is great, this is great news.

Am I wrong about the egotrip connection? I'm pretty sure sacha is that dude.

The article describes it as a multidimensional, transmedia-like project. Would be amazing if that meant some new or unreleased music.

I wonder how much of what is included here will be in the book.

http://www.spin.com/articles/story-y...-beastie-boys/

Edit: I has been years since I read this. Started reading it after I posted it. Most definitely a majority of this would have to be included in some aspect.

“interested in challenging the form and making the book a multidimensional experience. There is a kaleidoscopic frame of reference, and it asks a reader to keep up.”

I hope its not too difficult to read... I'm looking for the info more than I am an artistic statement, personally. Like a magazine format or some kind of weird non-sequential thing would be a little disappointing. Multidimensional could mean alot of things though. My guess is that it will will involve text, photos, sounds, perhaps internet links. Or perhaps it will be kinda like the audio commentaries, with an accompanied program of photos(?)

its foolish to even speculate, i know. shit will be a real treat though, thats for sure

I'm imagining a colorful beastie pop up book with intricate design by their artist and photographer friends...

whether there will be new music or not, this gives fans so much to look forward to.

and it looks like Mike and Adam will be keeping busy for the next couple of years.

2011-2015- seems about right for a legit beastie boys release.

Long Burn The Fire. Rest In Peace Adam.

This is good news! Not just the memoir, but the fact that Sacha is doing it This should fit the Beasties like a velvet glove. Propers all around to whoever helped put this together. Perfect.

...one might say that the Beastie Boy "Fight for Your Right to Party" guy is a hypocrite. Well, maybe; but in this fucked up world all you can hope for is change, and I'd rather be a hypocrite to you than a zombie forever.

I hope MMM get's a chapter about how he slid his way into a band that was already at the top of their game before his addition! I've always wanted to hear more about that.

2015 will also bring us some more Star Wars, which I had all the ideas for

I just figured that they needed a new DJ, and went for the worlds best? Along with the 3 MC's phone message being genuine... i.e.. one corroboration sorted and then boom!
