I wonder if it’s not actually 1998 tho. Unless the costumes got dusted off twice.

It looks like Awol. They switch to their usual instruments after Wonderwall (Awol goes to drums).

It must be awesome performing in Japan.

Yeah, weird that the Quasar Japan poster (http://www.beastiemania.com/gigog/show.php?g=19970203) only lists the other two Japanese shows. It's not a stretch to think that they played there again in 1998 around the time of shooting the Intergalactic video - would make more sense of the random shorter setlist too (and Wonderwall inclusion).

On the other hand, Beastiemania is rarely wrong and the show fits the timeline. I wonder if they thought there and then, hmmm, we could use these outfits for our comeback video!

In any case those Quasar shows look insane. To be on that Sydney harbour boat at a Beasties hardcore show with them in those outfits, stuff of dreams.

Does anyone have these bootlegs?

I was in Japan for a holiday last year and all workers in the street actually wear the same reflective vests (which look a bit like suspenders) as they wear in the Quasar and Intergalactic video. I've never seen these in other countries. People wear closed vests which look more like sleeveless jackets in other countries. So it seems logical to me they came up with the idea for these outfits being in Japan.

Anyway, according to Beastiemania, they did not play in Japan in 1998 at all. Let alone in Asia. I doubt if they went to Japan just to record the Intergalactic video. Perhaps they recorded the video in 1997 already?

It's possible, but that would mean they had Intergalactic in the can and slated as the first single long before its release. And they still would have gone there purely for the video, because Jan/Feb 1997 seems way too far in advance.

I find this is all quite interesting for reasons unknown.

Intergalactic was an older song which they took off the shelves for Hello Nasty. There is a story on that in the book that came with the Anthology album.

However, a year in avance seems like a long time. On the other hand, the parts of the video apart from the rapping in the streets may have took a while to create. And Intergalactic was the first single off Hello Nasty (perhaps even released before the album?)

According to Wikipedia, the Intergalactic video was shot in June 1998:

Music video
The "Intergalactic" video was made in June 1998. It revolves around a giant robot causing destruction by fighting a giant octopus-headed creature in a city while popping, a parody of Japanese Kaiju films (specifically the series finale of Johnny Sokko and his Flying Robot). Various scenes are filmed in the Shibuya and Shinjuku train stations in Tokyo, Japan in which the band wears the bright uniforms of (Koji) Japanese street construction workers. The video was a regular on Total Request Live and won the award for Best Hip-Hop Video at the 1999 MTV Video Music Awards. They performed "Three MC's and One DJ" and "Intergalactic" at the 1998 MTV Video Music Awards. It was directed by MCA under the pseudonym of Nathanial Hörnblowér.

The music video also somewhat parodies Japanese Super Sentai shows, which are the basis for Power Rangers.

In some versions of the video, the introduction is a sample of Le Sacre du Printemps by Igor Stravinsky.

The video ranked number 64 on MuchMusic's 100 Best Videos.
