Default old interview w/ Mike D

I'm working on this documentary, and needed to do an image search for some specific NYC 1980s/90s underground images. I've been talking to this guy who runs a music blog, he told me to do an image search w/ his blaog name and let me know if I want to use whatever pics come up....

Anyways, I saw this: https://vassifer.blogs.com/alexinnyc...d-in-2001.html

Nothing we haven't heard/read before, but still kind of cool to dig up an old chestnut.

It's called "Underground Inc: The Rise & Fall of Alternative Rock"... basic elevator pitch:

In 1991 Nirvana released their first major label album, and it sold a kagillion units (actual real amount sold). But the movie is NOT the story of Nirvana or the Grunge Explosion. It's the story of all the bands who got the chance to be on a major label because of the Nirvana/Grunge explosion.

Cop Shoot Cop, Sugartooth (whose second record was produced by Dust. Bros), Handsome, Jawbox, Course of Empire Dig, Surgery, Clutch, Corrosion of Conformity, Fudge Tunnel.... etc. We also talk to a bunch of people from the scene that was boiling up before the major label feeding frenzy.... members of White Zombie, Hemet, Primus, Quicksand, Ministry, Fishbone, Big Black, Killing Joke, etc etc.

It's like 99.9% done. We're just going back in and replacing images we couldn't clear and what have you. I'm a producer/editor/animator on the flick. Hope to see it released by the end of this year.

Howdy. Just wanted to let you, the one person, know that the doco is finished and in festivals. We had our world premiere in Sydney Australia on the 13th.

Playing next at the ReeperbahnFestival in Germany on 9/19 & 9/21.

https://www.undergroundincfilm.com

We're also playing in London soon, but i'm not sure of the dates. It will probably be playing in festivals for the next 6-18 months and then hit VOD and streaming services.

Peace!

JB

hey thanks guys! I'm glad people are responding to it.

I'm really excited for this new movie to be out and playing in the world. Indie Doc making is 100% a labor of love. You sit on the material for years before it finally gets to be seen by the public. And even then it may never come out "for real".

I posted about this like 5 years ago, but please (and thank you) feel free to take a look at my first feature length doc. http://mynameisjonahfilm.com/

You can stream or download it for FREE. Without typing a 9 paragraph thesis; it is a quirky character study about an early (and mostly unknown) "Myspace celeb" who is also one of the first documented cosplayers (though he wouldn't use that word.) That's just the tip of the iceberg though. And I won't get into it. But to quote BLEEDING COOL "MY NAME IS JONAH is pure, weird America."

It was deemed both "the best documentary I have ever seen" and "too trippy for mainstream audiences" by various "industry" people.

anyways, to keep this thread about the Beastie Boys. I heard (YG)FFYR(TP) on an easy listening station today! So stick that in yer ear. I sure did.

Thanks again

Just in case there are any London bboys or bgirls who would be into checking this out. The new doc plays next week 11/12/19.

Check out this exclusive clip (and info on the screening) from the flick at Louder than sound:
