Default Why is TT5B so expensive?

Just out of curiosity, I was looking up To The 5 Boroughs (vinyl) on Discogs to see what people were asking for it, and the lower prices were around $80. Used copies were going for over $100.

I bought this when it came out for like $20 and I guess I just don't get why it's so expensive. Did they not make many when they did the pressing?

Wow, I had no idea. My guess is the vinyl pressing was fairly limited because nobody was buying records back in 2004 except for DJs. I'll have to go see if I bought an extra copy now.

You also might do better on eBay. It really depends but sometimes prices on discogs can get kind of jacked up.

Right? It was a pretty big surprise for me as well. I still have my copy - I just wasn't expecting TT5B to be like... my third most valuable Beastie record.

I think you're onto something with the timing. I feel like CDs were still king back then. That's just my crappy memory.

Out of interest, how does it sound? It came out on double 180 from memory, correct?

Always regretted not getting a vinyl copy back then (though I was 14 and could only really afford the CD at first!) - remember seeing it for less than twenty, and when I looked a few years ago it was already fifty-plus (sterling).

I went and checked and I have a grip of stickers and the foldout poster that came with it. Pretty sweet.

I just played it today in light of this post, and it sounds great to me. I don't know jack about audio though, so take that for what it's worth. Mine is 180 gram double vinyl, but it didn't come with any extra swag as far as I recall.

Thanks. Yeah me neither really - I just know what I think sounds good and what doesn't, which is all you need really! I will track down a copy when a spare 100 bucks pops up, secondhand / independent store failing.

I never opened mine. I wonder if it will ever be worth 10,000 dollars? I might sell it then.

"A lot of record companies look at the numbers and they'll be like, 'Your first record sold 5 million and your second record sold only 800,000. What happened? You guys fell off, I think the band all feels that the record did really well. Most musicians I grew up playing music with would probably shoot me if I ever complained about selling 800,000 records."

I was lucky to buy a copy from my local indy record store here for under $30 a few years ago. I have also noticed the price has jumped. Same with HSCP2.

For TT5B it's probably due to the fact that its over 13 years old now (scary thought) and that they haven't reissued it and all the original runs are harder to find.
