Default Beastie Boys Music

It was 1 year ago today that "Beastie Boys Music" was released.

Do you think it will be the final official release from the band or do you think more things will come in the future (side projects, unreleased material, etc.)?

I don't think so, just based off of interviews I've seen with Adrock since he and Mike started doing media stuff again after Yauch's passing. He keeps referencing a vault of "crap" that they have to "figure out what to do with." I have a theory that this "vault" is like a library... if you will...

There is a massive subterranean cache of government publications, city directories, and sewer plans. Millions and millions of pages, but no one probably wants to actually see them (because they're super boring).

Then you have the stuff that's above ground, but way in the back by those old wooden one-arm-bandit desks that got shoved back there in the 80s. They're real books, but they've probably been replaced by like 8 new editions by now, so no one really has any reason to read them.

Then there are the main stacks when you walk in. These are some solid reads, but again, ask a librarian to pick out the "best 20." They're probably all a 7 out of 10, and there's a lot of them.

Then there's that little wooden book-case at the front. "Staff Picks." Pure fire.

My theory is that Mike and Adam each have a list of songs that they thought "I always liked that one," but that never made an album. That's probably the main stacks, and now they're making their staff picks.

I also don't know what I'm talking about so there's that.

honestly at this point i figure a new BB compilation will come out every 5 or 10 years with the same tracklist but different song order.

Mike has been working on songs with his kids lately so i imagine he’ll focus his musical energy on that.

Adam seems to be content being a dad and smoking weed and watching basketball and baseball.

buuuut who knows???

It was their latest greatest hits collection. It got better reviews than Beastie Boys Anthology and Solid Gold Hits. There really is no need to release another greatest hits collection after this. It's why I was wondering if anything else is coming next or is this it...

You can buy it on this very website (https://shopus.beastieboys.com/colle...c-gatefold-2lp)

Of you can find the red and white colored version at Target.

Did this really get better reviews than the Anthology? How is that possible? I mean I get that the Anthology stops at Hello Nasty, but for it's time it had so much bonus stuff and unreleased tracks, including pre-LTI stuff. Not to mention the vinyl version was a box set with a full color coffee table book...

Of course the Anthology was better to Beastie Boys fans, but the Beastie Boys Music CD was considered the best collection to introduce new people to the band.

compilations like these are pretty much review proof. i can see why Solid Gold Hits or Beastie Boys Music would be appealing to the casual fans with one disc and all the hits that they’re looking for. peeps looking for Sabotage and Intergalactic prob don’t want to have skipping through songs like Egg Raid on Mojo and Country Mike’s Theme.

Mike has been working with his two sons music project Very Nice Person. it’s possible he’s talking about that as well. they have a couple singles out. you can see Mike in some of their IG vids working with them on songs and playing drums.

Mike and Adam have talked about going through the vault of instrumental jams and other stuff over the past couple of years…but who knows as they take their time. I’m not holding my breath…but maybe one day.

Thank You Adam Yauch

What would be interesting to me and maybe some old fans like me is live recordings of the Gala event shows. I remember very cool and original instrumental versions of whatcha want and body moving with Mike D singing on drums

YES PLEASE! An official release featuring the best versions of each track from all the Gala Events, or even just one full show. I don't even have a good bootleg. The two I have are poor quality. Cannot believe how long ago that was!

I doubt anything big will happen. They did a book, movie, and compilation.
The HSCPt. 1 mixes were lost. The only thing left is this vault collection that will never see the light of day, The Re-Mixup, Gala Event, etc. While I would love to hear Adam & Mike on the mic together again for a new track, we know that’ll never happen.

i thought they were left on the D train in a turquoise plaid duffle bag that came from the submarine they recorded HN in while traversing the Mariana Trench before MEG escaped and ate james cameron while he was scouting avatar 6 locations after raising the titanic and finding descendants of the original passengers who have been surviving on algae and oxygen harvested from previously undiscovered marine life.

Ok but all jokes aside, I consulted with a forensic biographist and he said that Adrock was telling the truth about losing the master in that duffle bag in Beastie Boys Book.

Apparently when recording Part 1, Yauch decided that he wanted to do everything on one USB drive. That was actually the inspiration behind calling it "Part 1." "We're doing one stick, that's all." Adrock was nervous about it, but he was really focused on perfecting his mac and cheese recipe at the time, so he caved. But he definitely didn't want Yauch keeping the drive, what with that whole 15 year ring prank Yauch pulled on him, so he offered to take it.

So Adrock throws the stick into his bag and sets off to leave. Mike asked him "Hey, are you sure - what with this being the 21st century and our album being produced entirely on computers - that you want to wipe all digital backups of everything and put the album onto one physical piece of media?" But Adrock sort of just brushed him off because he was really getting in this spaghetti sandwich he'd picked up at 711. Anyway fast-forward and the USB drive goes missing, and no one has found it despite it being in a rather "flamboyant duffle bag" (this was how Mike apparently described it in his journal "The Sensual Memoirs of Michael Diamond").

And THAT is what happened to Part 1. Definitely not a joke. Really was lost on a train. Case closed.

I would love to see them do features on other people songs (besides Public Enemy). I know that the Beastie Boys as a band is over, but it would be great if they continued with other musical projects.

They'll do something eventually. New music, tour, etc. It won't be Beasties but it will be a different name. Like Dead and Co. type thing. Would be very surprised if this doesn't happen at some point. All those cool songs they made are just going to sit around and never be played live again? Come on.
