Anybody who's had to deal with the typical cable/satellite TV or internet company here in America will probably relate to this SNL sketch from 1976 featuring Lily Tomlin - to modernize it just substitute "cable" or "satellite" for the word "phone":

The more things change, the more they stay the same

FYI for the young whippersnappers reading this : there used to be only one phone company in most parts of the U.S. until the early 1980s, the Bell System. That legal monopoly actually had some advantages but ultimately was broken up.
