I was watching an episode of Rockford Files a couple months ago and at the beginning it said "directed by Alex Grasshoff" and I was like "Grasshoff....that name sounds familiar." I googled it and realized who it was. Hilarious that this guy went up there. He should have visited MCA's cabin while he was up there, if it is still there.

The Grasshoff house is so damn cool.

This is gonna seem like a non sequitur, but I heard Robert Iler (the actor who played AJ Soprano) talk about how back when they filmed the Sopranos, there was no social media or anything, and the cast rarely did interviews, so when people saw "the Sopranos" it was always in the show. He mentioned how today, actors are saturated everywhere, so you watch a show and then see a bunch of tweets about the show while it's bring filmed, then you get outtake reels, behind the scenes stuff, "making of" episodes, etc. Basically, people felt like James Gandolfini WAS Tony Soprano, and you don't really get that feel nowadays.

Anyway, that's how I feel about a lot of Beastie stuff, and the Grasshoffs are a great example. I'd hear a name drop once every few years on a track, some special appearances by Madeline's wardrobe, but that was it. You could tell the house (as well as the Grasshoffs) made a huge impression on the group, but it was also kind of a mystery. In one of the album audio commentaries MCA said something like "you know, that was like fifteen years ago, and we're STILL talking about them: we just can't let it go."

I dunno, it's just cool to see the place. Seeing a rack of clothes and being like damn, those bugged out outfits I saw in music videos from 1989 went back into this place that no one really knew much about, and now a quarter-century later someone turns on a camera and they're just right there. Anyway shout out to this guy for having the tenacity to keep an eye open and figure out when he could finally get inside.

"A blast from the Grasshoff, awhile it's been
Stepping into the future again"

That house is incredible. Even better than I imagined. 70s to the max with amazing views and the pool to chill in on sunny days, bring girls up there, beautiful evenings... Man nobody had more fun than those guys, it's like a dream...
