We got less than half of that and the country fell to bits.

Maybe Adam means snowfall like that warrants the ordeal we had to go through.

Yes, but they could of left it unploughed in other places. Not everywhere is a city, I live in the suburbs so snow on the non-urban routes where ploughs and gritters don't reach last longer

The difference in the UK is that we don't always get snowy winters so spending on infrastructure to clear snow is not needed, it's better taken out of an emergency budget and react to it but that does mean slower going. Although, for the past two years we've had a bad winter and because our memories are short, we think the UK suffers more and is less organised than countries that do have snow every year and manage to clear it - we think we get snow every year and fail at dealing with it when we actually get very little snow and it's a fair bet to spend money on other things.

When we get major snow storms it cheers everyone up, so what we're all losing pay - I feel bad for those that will struggle more because of it (as I am kinda now) and I don't want to see anyone hurt because of the weather (look after the elderly and vulnerable etc should already be a priority so I am not saying glad anyone is dead) but the trade off is some unexpected fun for the majority for a few days despite the inconvenience of a few (mainly journalist it seems). Climate change means more freak weather conditions but if we embrace it we'll learn how to get along with the damage we do rather than it making us more miserable. The same thing I hope we learn to do when we get more 30+ degree summers to

The only people who think winter is anything less than a savage, inhuman ordeal are people who have never actually experienced a real one.

what the hell is wrong with some of you people. snow at that degree is absolutely maddening.

it's not pretty. it's not fun.

it's stark, bleak and depressing. everything is the same color.

then it turns into piles of shit as it slowly melts. then it refreezes and now you have shitbergs littering the landscape.

in new england you can get snowbanks 5 feet tall in front of your driveway when plow after plow drives by and just burries you in. then the next storm hits the following week and just adds to the shit.

in large parking lots you often see mountains of shitty snow a good two stories tall taking up a quarter of the parking lot.

we got hammered with the snow last february. it was absolutely terrible to try and get anywhere for about a week. when it finally started to clear up, we got a bit more and it sucked even worse.

snow sucks even more when you live at the bottom of a hill...

I have just had a contest with an extremely unpleasant computer virus in which I was not victorious. As a result I have no recent pictures handy. I will now instead post this link to a brief motion picture of me talking about band shtuff.

for like a day. then you have to trudge to work in grey shitty muck that gets all over your shoes and pants for the next two weeks. if it's really bad it melts into nasty puddles that you have to either leap over (hoping there's no ice on the other side but there probably is) or step through and hope it doesn't seep through and get your foot wet
