Default The Yauch Tape: An Anthology of MCA

I made this mixtape focusing on everything Yauch.

There are a lot of cool MCA dedication mixes popping up on the web right now... but all the ones I've heard seems to be just great Beastie Boys mixtapes (and none included any punk/hardcore which was so important to Adam!), so I wanted to try focus in a bit more on MCA centered tracks (don't fret, there are classic 3 Man Weave type cuts in there as well).
...Oh, and somehow I negated to include Flowin Prose!?! D'oh
So here are a couple of cool remixes of that one:
Flowin' Prose - Stairway To Heaven Remix - CosmoKramer
Sterolabbin' Prose Flow (Dilla beat) - MCScoobyT
Flowin' Prose 4 Disarmament - AdZud

Let me know what you think and what else I should have included and why...

Here's the track list. Enjoy!

I like that MCA painting that you have as your avatar. Do you have a link to where I can see a proper enlargement of it?

Those MCA cameo guest star tracks from the '80s are a hoot! They're like...so normal. Not like anything the band would do later.

I'm curious why Yauch was always the one asked to do these things.

We Love You MCA!

Read this, it might help you understand why MCA had the most clout and was the one wanted for guest spots back in the day... plus he banged (or at least made out with) Madonna... right!?!

Reminds me of some discussion I saw on another messageboard like six years ago, where the topic was which of the three would you use to represent the Beastie Boys at like a convention or something, and MCA got the most votes.

What's funny about that is, at least from my own experience, when people think of the Beastie Boys, non-fans especially, they usually think of Adrock. When non-fans say they hate the Beastie Boys, when they say, "I can't stand their voices!" they're thinking of Adrock. When people say someone is "rapping like the Beastie Boys", they're thinking of Adrock.

I think you'er onto something here...
The King Ad-Rock has always been my favorite (check this Ad-Rock Mega-Mix I made a few years back) but MCA was always and always will be, the 'coolest'... hands down.

Must we compare them? For me, all three represent Beastie Boys - and even without MCA, the Beasties are still alive. Maybe they won't tour any more, maybe they won't make records any more, but they're still alive. Yes, I've always found AdRock's voice the most distinctive and unusual of the three, this doesn't mean that MCA's voice was not important. Or replaceable. I hope they find somebody who's not filling in his role, but somebody who is an individual as well. It has always been not the copycats, but the whole new individuals, saving great bands when it seems that there is no future without the original member (just think of AC/DC and Alice in Chains, especially the later).

A "wise saying" by a Bulgarian khan says "Man, even if he lives good, dies, and another is born". I find this pretty much the case of MCA. He lived a good life, and death is inevitable - it just that it came too early. This doesn't mean that somewhere out there there isn't anyone who can get his pair of shoes, not to replace him or to fill his role on stage, but to contribute his love to the Beastie Boys, the same way that MCA did.

On topic, this is a great mix to celebrate Adam's life. The granny pic just made me burst into laughter, and there are some track I haven't heard previously.
