I love dance music, not club music that's played in America. Benni Benassi and William Orbit or anybody that experiments with new sounds. Dubstep I haven't been able to really listen to enough to decide but what I heard I hated. And then since I found out Justin Bieber was coming out with a dubstep album I decided I would never give it a chance.

They said that about...VIRTUALLY EVERY FORM OF POPULAR MUSIC SINCE ELVIS PRESLEY. In particular hip hop, sampling etc.

When its done well, dubstep is really good. It can get a bit formulaic but an occasional dubstep influence isnt a bad thing. There's some obvious dubstep by numbers stuff out there but i like it.

Joy Orbison

Sub Focus/Joker

Very silly remix but it makes me smile

None of this sounds like evil people sticking their dictators in any kind of laptop.

In it's purest form dubstep is beautiful i.e.: Benga - Afro Warrior

In it's frat boy chainsaw grating form it is obnoxious. i.e.: Skrillex

To just pass judgement on dubstep as a whole and say that "it just simply isn't music" is a bit unfair. Especially if you're not familiar with its history and what form of music it spawned off of.

I don't really know what it is. Like dub, but...dancey? I tried to watch a skrillex video, but I got bored. I didn't hate it, just didn't feel like watching a greasy haired lil dude bee boppin around. His look reminds me of Corey Feldman in dream a little dream.

Just like any music its good for a certain time and place and appeals to a particular demographic. There are different forms of it, from the experimental singer/songwriter stuff of James Blake, to the minimal beats of Benga, poppier stuff of Nero or two-dimensional stadium sized beats of Skrillex.

I like a good banging drop from time to time, as long as theres some variation. It woulden't be the only the genre I'd listen to, but I appreciate some heavy dubstep, or some more minimal grimey dubstep if I'm in the right mood.

It appeals to a lot of people, so obviously its doing something right. Its all subjective whether youre into it or not right?

Don't care much for dubstep, but i actually have a sort of a soft spot for CHASE and STATUS. First time i heard them their sound grew on me they're classed drum and bass but i think they borrow a'lot of dubstep elements too give them a spin if you haven't already.

chase and status are beyond dubstep now, there's a lot of influences apparent in their stuff. i love em. cracking live band as well. Blind faith is one of this century's best tunes

I'll be honest I've listened to it both high and not. It can be a bit too hectic if exposed to too much dubstep whilst under th'influence. For me anyway.

Think thats kind of a problem with it, is that there is a lot of similar stuff, not enough changes in mood or feel. But there is good stuff out there.

Been skratching over "dubstep" and pre-cursor dubstep beats for over 10 years. I rarely listen to it outside of the context of scratching though.

if you don't like dubstep then you are doing it wrong. easily one of the most satisfying twists in dance music in the last few years.

I'm down with dubstep, but I can see why it's not a lot of people's cup of tea.

When it's good, it's really good and when it sucks, it almost makes me want to hate the entire genre like most everyone else.

It's one of those genres (like hip-hop) that started off underground where only people that loved the music made it, there was nothing to be gained financially by producing it, and as a result most of it was good.

It has now become one of those genres (like hip-hop) where the people making it have no knowledge of the essence or roots of the music and have diluted and/or twisted its perception and stylistic expression to an obnoxious degree in the pursuit of money. I can't even stand listening to it anymore, unfortunately, despite having some great memories of early dubstep raves in South London & Bristol.

Dubstep isn't without its merits, its just that right now there are a bunch of people taking it in a number of different directions, some good and some not so good. Regardless, as had already been expressed, I think it's really important to avoid using phrases like "it's not music" and stuff like that. Just because you don't understand it doesn't mean that it doesn't bring a lot of joy to other people. As well, I'm sure that there are a lot of people that don't think hip hop, Beastie Boys or rap is music either. Obviously that's wrong, and it's offensive too.

Anyways... I think that the best producers in the game right now are Bassnectar, Downlink, Excision and Vaski among others. Bassnectar in particular, he's really trying as hard as he can to push the genre forward, and electronic music in general. Here are some links to some choice tunes, if you want to give it a go.

Bassnectar:

Downlink:

Excision:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i0WlXcQ-hmI

And for the love of God, don't let NO-FUCKIN'-BODY tell you what to like and what not to like. Your tastes are your own.

EDIT: OH FUCK!!! How could I forget this? If you've never heard of Bassnectar or never seen this video, watch it... some major Beasties love at the end!!!!

It's not a genre I like listening to often. I'll put a dubstep song on once in a blue moon. I like the dubstep that the Youtube user DatsiK makes.

Here's a dubstep remix he did of a track from the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack.
