Nice. Some nice closure on the HSC pt.1 debate in there too, finally.

Not that consumed considering the bands output.

Paul’s Boutique is considered, pretty much by consensus, to be your best album, and the “Sabotage” gave you a new audience.
This interviewer comes off at times as if they did research the night before on wikipedia. While many do indeed consider Paul's Boutique their best, I think many more consider Licensed to Ill to be better. PB is certainly not "pretty much consensus", thats a lazy statement by them.
While Sabotage was immensely popular in song and video. it was Paul's Boutique and Check Your Head that gave them new audiences. Many don't like Ill Communication cuz they feel its just "CYH" re-hashed

Thanks for that, I thought that was a great interview. I can't really criticise the interviewer - I found it very engaging. PB is constantly referred to as their best work in numerous articles, nothing new there.

I forget how eloquent Mike is sometimes. He's also looking well.

Keen for the memoir.

Not that it really is any of my business but Mike mentioned Adam has a small child; when did that happen? I vaguely remember a pic of him pushing a stroller but I thought that was a still from a movie he was in.

Is there though? No one really knows if the other HSC material will see the light of day.

I think I read - presumably on here - that they had adopted around that time.

There's still a debate in some corners about whether it existed or was just a goof. It's closure in the sense that if it were planned, it had to have existed.

I've always held out hope it will be released. Beastie Boys 'lost' album? In these modern times? Would be dope.

I thought we were beyond that debate - of course it existed! I never had any doubt that they had two album's worth of material and planned to release it as such. But I know see what McDuff meant by closure.

And yes, I concur. The potential for release remains very open.

But they planned to release HSCP1 doesn't necessarily they have it recorded and finished. It could also be interpreted that the plan was to write and record a follow up and call it HSCP1. I wish the interviewer would have followed up on the question with "so you have a whole albums worth of material that you guys were going to release?

Oh man.

http://drownedinsound.com/in_depth/4...committee-pt-1

Furthermore, in the interview from this week he makes reference to Part One, meaning this was the plan at least as recently as 2012 (post release of our timeline's Part Two).

Catch up. They literally had listening sessions and reviews for part 1. It's crazy how people revise history and ignore facts.

Now you're messing it up!

The part one that follows our timeline's part two (which itself started life as our part one) started its life as part two. The 2009 article refers to this part one as part two because it follows a precedent release, being 2009s part one, however at the junction of realities, it swapped over, part one became part two, and was subsequently intended to be followed by part one, the intended part two to a 2009 release of part one before it became 2011s part two.

Haha, fucking hell. What KP said.
  • HSC Pt. 1, due to come out September 2009.
  • HSC Pt. 2 scheduled to follow at a later date.
  • HSC Pt. 1 postponed. We know why.
  • Band announce that HSC Pt. 2 will be released April 2011. Track-listing, aside from some re-sequencing and a couple of omissions, is the same as the postponed Pt. 1 release. The songs have been mixed again by Zdar. Band have called the 2011 release Pt. 2 seemingly so they can make jokes about not missing a second album release date. It causes eternal confusion for some fans.
  • The songs intended for the original second part remain unreleased. If they ever see the light of day, it might logically - and I use that word liberally - make sense for them to come out under the title HSC Pt. 1.

I'm not revising history or ignoring facts at all. And why would I want to anyways? Where would that get me?

As others had mentioned, what was originally going to be Part 1 with the Billy Ocean inspired escalator cover was pushed back and remixed by Zadar and released as Part Two. The listening parties that you mention for Part 1, has the same track listing that we got on part 2.

dave790 summarizes the timeline perfectly.

The question I had, was did they have the follow up album actually recorded and finished, in the bag and ready to be released, or were they still working on it and polishing it up.

The old interview that KP posted helps answer my question, and seems to elude to yes
In the interview Mike D states that they have another albums worth of material but it sounds like they were not sure how they wanted to release it or if it was completely polished and finished.

Hopefully we can hear part 1 sometime.
I just never understood why it wasn't released. I figured they were still working on it and modifying it hence one of the reasons it was never released.

along with the cut featuring the Bob Dylan snippet, pt. 1 also includes the track with Mike's verse about the repairman that bombed his bathroom with "fart spray cologne".

cant remember if there were any other details about other songs from that proj...

Yes, that was from an old interview.

But there were also a few lyrical changes from Part 1 to Part 2 as we heard with Too Many Rappers & Here's a little something for You

Yep ^^^ it's worth noting that any of the lyrics could have been changed in theory, as hardly anyone heard the tracks that made up Pt. 2 in their original form.

Part of me just wants to see that inspired original artwork issued.

I think, ultimately, Yauch's passing put an end to the idea of releasing the other part. But in the future who knows.

They also intended to release an album of Mix Up remixes with their favourtie artists like MIA rhyming over them.

Intention doesn't equal a finished project. Although, again, it seems from the interviews that HSCP1 was more of finished project then the Mix Up redux album.

What a great interview. I was a little skeptical when the interviewer tried to summarize their career in a handful of moments. Covered a lot of great topics. Definitely some deep topics on how to transition and evolve past being a full time Beastie.

Thank You Adam Yauch

In the interest of full disclosure I concede that Micodin is technically right about the existence of Part One, but he's talking about a different thing to Part One.

Haha yes - and, on that, I'd still like to hear the original HSC Pt.1 (ie the original mixes of what became Pt. 2). The cover and superior sequencing would also be nice, although this can admittedly be done on iTunes.
