I'll chime in on the good ole Cubs / Sox conversation. I'm a Cubs fan whose been to a quite a few Sox games.

My last Sox experience entailed listening to the idiots behind me talk about what kind of bachelorette party she was having while the guys were talking about the finer points of loud mufflers. Overall the fans are drunker and more obnoxious at US Cellular.

If you can't appreciate the history of Wrigley then you must not be a fan of baseball. Wrigley is the better baseball experience. US Cellular is the cheaper baseball experience.

Why do they only build stands on one side of the ball park?

That's weird.

They could double the amount of people that could come to the game.

Huh? No they don't.
There are stands on all sides.
Sometimes the stands in the outfield are low to allow the city skyline to be visable.
Also, Baseball is played everyday from April to October. 40,000 is usually enough seats to accomodate all the fans on a daily basis.
It's better to make a 40,000 seat intimate stadium and sell out every game, than a 60,000 stadium where you're far away from the game because the stadium's too big.
