here's a question that will truly define you as a person:

who's your favourite Rolling Stone?

That is a harder question, actually. I would have to say..

5. Taylor
6. Stu

Dude's aspirations went so much further than just this gay little pop outfit; He trained to be an interstellar warrior. He's built like a machine now, and can apparently kill people with just the use of his two pinkies. And he has acting chops that can rival a young Marlon Brando.

George has written some great songs. Nevermind the fact that he wrote Here Comes The Sun, Something, While My guitar Gently Weeps, Blue Jay Way and Tax Man, but he was responsible for bringing the Eastern music influences to the group and, in turn, to the rock n roll community as a whole.

He's one of the least regarded major influences in Rock period. He introduced the rest of the group to the Eastern Mysticism, Indian instruments and the mind-expanding practices which would eventually lead to the groups most creative and paramount work. He brought in outside musicians like Eric Clapton and Billy Preston to rejuvenate the group as it was beginning to implode. The only thing that held him back from possibly rivalling John and Paul was John and Paul holding him back.

hey, that's cool, both my parents are major george fans, i am aware that he is highly regarded.

i, personally, really don't like while my guitar gently weeps and piggies, i can recognise good song writing, but its not to my taste, as much as some of the other stuff.

if that makes me inferior as a music listener so be it. :)

Nah, I never said you your taste was inferior. Now, if you said that the most talented Beatle was Ringo and that your favorite song was Maxwell's Silver Hammer, that'd be a different story.

It's way too hard for me to pick one fav. My top 10(ish) list would probably be:

A Day In The Life
Strawberry Fields Forever
In My Life
And Your Bird Can Sing
Helter Skelter
Something
Ticket To Ride
Tommorow Never Knows
Happiness Is A Warm Gun
Here Comes The Sun
And the whole side two medley of Abbey Road...

Totally underrated songs, in my opinion, would be Long, Long, Long, Dear Prudence, I'm So Tired, Rain, I Saw Her Standing There, Every Little Thing, Love You Too and so many more. Lots of my favs weren't even singles.

You?

My fav songs tend to change all the time, but as far as albums go, I think Revolver is the most solid/consistent. But, Abbey Road is my personal favorite. The White album has a few too many weak moments like Honey Pie, Piggies and Martha My Dear.

What, nobody didn't mention Ringo for the movie Caveman?

You're all pathetic. That fucking movie is one of my favorites and needless to say, it's a classic. It's so b-rated but yet, I watch it over and over and still laugh my balls off.

Ok, musical wise, I'd have to say Paul though. Ringo was a b-rated actor as well as for drums. He was "mary had a little lamb" runner up on the drums.

Paul though has probably brought so many musicians to do their thing on the bass as he has.

He's probably one of the only bassists that uses a pick that I can stand.

The bass in originality, is supposed to be plucked via finger.

My taste in Beatles is much like my taste in U2. Not so much related to the music, but more related to my like or dislike of their personality.

Bono is a douche.

Lennon was an arrogant jerk.

McCartney puts on an unbelievable sugar-sweet facade that makes him less likeable.

Harrison was the only Beatle who seemed like a sincerely good guy to me. Not to mention his influence on the group and rock and roll as whole.

saz
12-09-2006, 12:04 PM
yeah, paul was a sentimental dork, and john was volatile, could be hypocritical, and had some sort of a mental problem...but all in all the beatles were good guys. i kind of empathize a little more with paul than john, because john could be a total jerk at times, however my favourite is george. paul and john were both great singers. a stand-out paul track for me is back in the ussr.

I think John didn't have much of a voice -- he strains too much -- but he could sing really well.

Paul's got a fine voice, even when he does his Little Richard imitation. Much, much stronger voice than John's, but he didn't have as much range of expression.

Good choice. Donny Hathaway also did an excellent cover of Jealous Guy that'd be worth checking for.

As far as Lennon's songwriting goes, I think he's one of few artists ever that somehow managed to record so many songs of such equal brilliance, despite having such drastically varying instrumentation and recording styles. Whether the production was stripped down (Working Class Hero) or leaning towards a more experimental/grandiose style (Tomorrow Never Knows/Strawberry Fields Forever), he always sounded like he was in his element.

Solo: Watching The Wheels, Instant Karma, How Do You Sleep?, Oh Yoko, Mother

Beatles: Happiness Is A Warm Gun, In My Life, I'm So Tired, Dear Prudence, A Day In The Life
