What about Dust to Dust? The album is fine, but if you think that Pete Nice is a better rapper than Jay, then you're just certifiably mentally retarded. Seriously. Pete wasn't even that sick for his own time, nevermind now. This was in '93, when dude's were pushing themselves into another orbit with rhymes (Heiro, Organized Konfusion, Ras Kass etc), and the best rapper you can pull from that era is Pete Nice? Seriously.

I am trying to be patient with you people.

What pisses me off the most is whenever I log onto SoulSeek, it throws me into the Underground Hip-Hop room, and more often than not, some fool is saying something like "JAY-Z IS A HOMO!! O.C IS THE BEST RAPPER EVR!!!1!11"

Anyone who thinks Jay-Z is wack gets the gas face.

mickill
06-07-2005, 03:30 PM
I like Chuck a lot, but he was always kinda one-dimensional. He wasn't very versatile. Now, PE, they're easily one of the 3 greatest rap groups ever, no question.

KRS has always been overrated, in my opinion. BDP was cool..and his first solo. Everything else, nah. Rakim is/was 10X better.

BIG? Yeah, that's close.

Nas
2Pac
Biggie
Rakim
KRS-One

All better than Jay-Z. You can argue that he's had a better "career", because none of his albums have bombed, which is true, they've all been pretty solid (plus he hasn't died yet). But let's face the facts. He doesn't have any standout material that can match up to the feats accomplished on Illmatic, or Ready To Die, or Paid In Full, etc. etc.

When I think of the best MCs, I think of what they did at their peak. Jay's best doesn't match up to the best of those I mentioned above. Oh yeah and his voice does suck, kinda like that other guy...Eminem.

I guess its cuz the people who listen to mainstream appear to be mainstream to the more alterna-rap lovers. and its like the mainstreamers wont give up the catchy pop beats and listen to some music that isnt triggered by money.... just a thought, probably wrong

I think Jay just came into his own in Blueprint and topped it off with the Black Album. I became a huge fan when he went to a more "soulful" approach and started writing music with a little more depth.

The Unplugged Cd is a must and one of my all time favorite hip hop albums is Grey Album.

The only people who discredit Jay are the people who haven't given him a proper listen yet. If you're judging him by what radio has thrown in your face 8 years ago, then eh, he's not so great.

I enjoy his style so much more than 2pacs. He's on the cusp of overtaking Biggie in my eyes too. He may be the GOAT for the simple fact that he's going to make more music and it's only getting better.

Yeah man, Jay's flow is pretty gay compared to Melle Mel's, man. I think Kurtis Blow would tear Jigga a new one too, man. There's this dude named Kool Moe Dee and this other cat named Busy Bee, man, they're pretty sick too, man. I'm pretty certain that MC Shan would seriously lyrically merk Jay out too, man, no doubt about it, man. I think Sparky D and holy shit, MC Solaar would crush Jay...forgot about him. Yeah man. Huh uh huh huh huh! Yeah, in a battle Mel would be like: "Well, you know Jay-Z/ I got the super cold voice/ And when it comes to the ladies/ I'm the top choice!" oooooooooooh.....Dizzzzzznaaaamnnn!

2 me he overtook him already. The BET list they had 3 years ago, to me, was true with Pac, Jigga, Biggie. BUt when I think Jigga comapred to Pac I dont see as huge of an impact on other rappers as Pac. As a buisnessman though, a true hustler, he's above them all. Jigga is on point. He got at least 2 classics depending on who you talk too that few people even will fight against and even help to revive the carrer of Nas, the supposed God Son of Rap. That's some power right there, that even your foes bring there A-game 2 better diss' you, and as you can see in terms of sales and overal LP legitmacy, Stillmatic still trumps God Son or Streets Disciple. He might need Jigga to spark him a lil again.

And Takeover is STILL better then Ether, XXL might have it right with it being the 2nd greatest diss single of all time (with Hit em Up being #1 becasue of overal emotion)

How So? Not saying your wrong cuz like I said it's hard for me to decide too there's only 2 songs I dont like on that Lp while Blueprint only 1

yes sir....listening to both of them right now....hard to decide which one I like better

Production:OB4CL(barely), keeps the mood of the lp good due in part its the same producer on all the songs

Lyrically:SC, but OB4CL is stellar too (mostly because of Ghostface)

I dont see how anyone can defintealy say one is better then the other they are too close, but we also gotta keep in mind either way Ghostface wins.

his one verse towards Nas alone did it for me. I cant really say Hitemup because in general it was good, but too me, the weak dissing of 2pac homies (OUtlawz) was pretty bland comapared to the fire 2pac had. To me Hitemup is better but in terms of overal song (meaning the WHOLE song not just one aspect) Takeover, just cuz its all Jigga with no features, if 2pac didnt have the OUtlawz on it and just wrote a 3rd verse it would be untouchable to me, but Takeover "you lil fuck I got money stacks bigger then you" hahaaha.

why is that?

I think he means that it wasn't really a serious song so much as it was a parodical statement. It's a good track, but yeah, it's not really a song or anything.

Of course, if that's not what he meant, then whatever. Auton's just waaaay too critical of others. That bitch.

i meant the song was more of a joke song.. a parody. a good parody, but still really not much of an actual song ya know? i like the rapeover.. but saying it's better than the takeover is just silly.

it's a parody, yes..

but don't you think it makes a better/much bigger point than the takeover did?

jay was talkin about his own egotistical ass take over the rap game.....when Mos def comes and shows EVERYONE who's really running the rap game...and it ain't rappers....

It does make sense, man; I said it's a good "track", which could be a skit or anything else for that matter. I don't think it's intended to be a "song", though. It's parodical. It's a statement. He'd never release it as a single or anything.

I think they took it off the album too, didn't they?

It may sound like parody but it's very serious, not like the Jay-zs tracks.
Jay-z got a big talent but he is to busy with himself with his "beautiful bitch" and this king of NY shit.

How did this become Jay Z vs. Mos Def????

Anyway, you're using a JayZ ripoff to try and say MosDef is better than him. That's complete fucking fuck.

these people arent on the jay-z level. Jay-Z can keep his level, his music is still crap and his flow is the most overratted the world has ever seen.

I like Jay-z, I got 2 albums.
But there are so many rap-parameters on which he's weak.
And matter of fact Jay-z is like crying little white girl compare to Mos Defs music.

consider that "the new danger" is barely gold and "Blueprint" is multiplatinum, not quite everyone shares mos point of view.

i love mos but I always thought "the rape over" seemed like a bitchy whiny track.

Mos Def and Jay-Z is a hard one but only a person not into Jigga would give it to Mos Def knowing he has only had one solid lp compared to Jigga's constinecy. Jay-Z might not be as lyrically talented as Mos can be (keyword:can) but Jigga is the better MC. Anybody hating cuz Jigga is "mainstream" consider this:

from 2pacboard.com

how did mos def sell out?

* Pulling the conscious bandwagon, than jumping away?
* Claimed he was a down-to-earth dude when Rawkus cockblocked his band, but post-The Love Below dropped The New Danger (on which he didn't even have the balls to go all the way, and especially lmao at how half-ass it is after listening to "Rock and Roll" off of his first album)?
* Repping Islam, than bragging in interviews about eating pork?
* Changing the words to "Umi Says" to make some Nike money?
* The GMC commercials? (How're you going to make "New World Water" and then write a jingle to help sell some trucks?)
* His guest appearances in the past couple years... he's said no to everyone except Kanye West and the Neptunes (and General Motors)

Quote(by Mos Def from the source June 2005):
"Our priorities is gettin' fucked. Lil Jon-I love his music. But why are the East Side Boyz names Big Sam and Lil Bo? What the fuck? What's next, Kunta and Kinte? The South should know better. This is the same country that ran up in Fred Hampton's crib and shot him in bed with his pregnant wife. You think the rules changed cause niggas got No. 1 records? What are we supposed to tell our kids? After Malcolm, Martin and Dubois we got Sam-Bo? I'm supposed to be down with that 'cause it makes me dance?"

Quote (from the source again)
His latest solo album, The New Danger, came out in October, and it's an example of how Mos's iron commitment to his idiosyncratic sensibility can get in his way. It features his laid-back, verbally adroit rapping over shredding rock riffs. Critics dug it, but some fans shrugged. "I think people just were expecting something different," Mos says. "Kinda like, crusading, 'I'm gonna save hip-hop from all these jewelry-wearing, champagne-swigging, sneaker-designing monsters.' And I was like, No, I'm just gonna make some music I like."

He says a bunch of shit and calls people out, but starts sweating when he's held to the same standard. He wants to call out Lil Jon, but I bet he didn't have any problem with appearing in a movie where Halle Berry and Billy Bob Thornton played to white men's antebellum fantasies.

Mos Def can't put himself to the same standards he likes to hold other people too. Talib Kweli will diss the Game in an interview, and then put him on his Official Mixtape like a bitch.

which is all true, same goes with Nas as well....even the Mighty Mos Def can be a hypocrite. Even the just are unjust in a way, like I say if he want to talk like a leader...be a leader and change hip-hop not do a damn commerical(which he appears in the new ones) for a damn Denali or Gatorade(Nas), the black mans pipe dream. That something I want my kids to reach for, that after they become big time ballaz(sarcasm). There are too many saying that black people need to rise up (speaking like they for the people) but not doing shit about it.If he wants to talk like a leader, be a damn leader. Do what MLK and espcially,ESPICALLY, Malcolm X wanted us to do, even 2pac to an extent understood that. So to say Mos Def is more real then Jigga is false. At least with Jigga you'll know what your going get.
