I remember posting this pretty much every day at the time the DVD came out. You should read it.


We've received a few messages of concern about the lack of obscenity on the Beastie Boys DVD Anthology. It has never been Criterion's policy to censor any of its releases, and this is no exception. We didn't suggest removing any language from the songs. They appear on the DVD the way the Beastie Boys wanted them to appear. But don't take our word for it. Beastie Boy Adam Yauch asked us to pass this on to concerned customers:

"The truth is, that because the videos were created to show on TV the bleeping was done when they were made. And it would have been tricky to try to put the cursing back into them as some have sound effects layered into the audio. Since this was done to most of the stuff already, I decided to carry it over into the remixes so that it could go to a wider audience. Sorry if this disappoints anyone. I personally have gotten so used to seeing the videos that way while making them that I don't even notice it. I just see it as part of what they are. But for those of you that are really mad about this, maybe you could have a little free-style cursing session at home at my expense."
