REMIX COMPETITION

it could be like a tournament with one on one's and someone judges and whoever wins progresses or it could be like pop idol where people slowly get eliminated by judges so the best are left then people have to vote.

I think that we should totally start one that should be totally supported by the site and totally stickyed up there and totally have a fun prize like a socket puppet made out of Mike Ds sock.

its early stages yet but i expect everyone will be given the same a capella to use in each stage because there isnt that many to go around. its moke likely that all material has to be made new and from scratch. a form of proof that you actually made the song will have to be submitted along with the song aswell, but i dont know what that'll be yet.

like everybody who joins the contest has 2 pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd from the others...and if the total points add up 2 a tie, somebody independent picks the winner?

this would work better 4 me cause i dont remix that often and more stages will be 2 much 4

i expect there will be more than one stage but there would be enough time given to make a song. something like 5 days.the way the competition works all depends on how many people enter. i dont really fully understand you though. it wont just be :you enter a song and that song goes through all the stages. you'll have to make around 3/4 songs i expect. what it could be is, just to make it more interesting, everyone goes one on one at the start and the winner is decided by pole votes from other people on the board. the winner of this one on one is a finallist so that halves the numbers. im not about the remixers voting on eachothers songs though.

3-4 is a lot...
i still feel the remixers can vote 4 eachother since we know how 2 do it tho...but if u disgaree u will need a jury....this keeps it more objective i feel...let's say u got a jury of 4 people...

how about this?
all remixers pm the links 2 their remix 2 u...when we reached the deadline u post the links in the forum...
after this, the members of the jury pick a 1st, 2nd and 3rd from all the remixers...

then u can organize another contest/stage later, so the people like me, who like 2 join in but dont like the obligation of several rounds, can do their thing 2....
u can always organize another contest right after this one, exclude the winner of the thirst from it and leave the others free weather they wanna rejoin or not...

lets say u organize a total of three contest and come up with three number ones....u can post those 3 remixes in a new thread and choose a winner from them...(if the prices would be an issue)

let's say 20 people join in....that means each one has 2 listen 2 19 remixes and choose the best three...meanin a number 1, 2 and 3... number 1 gets excluded from the next contests and all the others can rejoin fresh into the 2nd...and after the 3rd contest u have a number 1 from the 1st contest, a number 1 from contest 2 and a number 1 from contest 3...

and those three remixes will be posted in a new thread, from wich the winner will be picked!

edit: or those three winners all make a new remix and the winner will be picked from those (so nobody has an advantage)

19 is a high number to listen to so i think it'd be better if we did the one on one thing to half the numbers 1st. we'll work something out for after that. id liek it to be a like a final though. for example. you do two competitions and get a 1st 2nd and 3rd place each time, and both 1st's, both 2nd's and both 3rd's go head to head to determine the 1st 2nd and 3rd spots. thats what id like to happen.

We ran a similar remix comp on a UK hip hop site and found ourselves with a lot of problems ( Number of entrants / who judges / voting for mates etc )

The easiest way of doing this, is probably NOT by rounds.

I think you should consider this option.

When the aca is chosen and made available, all links for the remixes should be sent to the guy that offered to host the files in one place. He will then assign a number to that entry, rename the file and host it (obviously making note of who got what number!).

When the files are then put up to be voted on, we cannot vote on name - just the number - you will not know who you are voting for.
Maybe the producers listen to all remixes first and list thier top 10 - the 10 (or 5 - asking people to listen to the same song in 10 different guises can get boring) tracks with the most votes then get posted in GENERAL for 1 week - allowing other Beastie fans, not just producers, to listen and cast thier votes too - thus finding a winner.

Just an idea but the fairest one I can think of. It is anonymous until the winner is announced (Obviously, the producer will have listen to all tracks and noted number he/she has been assigned - any producer revealing thier number will be barred)

Suggestion

Using chromium05 annoymous submissions method but...

5 Groups with 5 Mixers all mixing the same acapella
Make each contest a new post. Each post will have a poll with the 5 mixers names where anyone that is here and registered only get one vote and set a deadline date for the end of the poll.

Top 2 vote getters in each of the 5 polls go on to the semi finals where it is once again broken down, this time 2 groups of 5.

New posts, new poll, new acapella.

2 SCENARIOS
#1
Top 2 in each group go to the final four where it can be a one on one elimination where the person with the most votes in the previous round goes against the person with the least votes (but still was second in their group) head to head.

#2
Top 1 in each group go to the final round where they compete in a best 2 out of 3 context.


The rounds I feel is the best method, this way we eliminate any one hit wonders and find the mixer with the best longevity and creativity in the game.

ok i cant let any more people enter until i find out wether dj_dulac and martijn are entering which will be between now and tommorow evening. cause for this system to work we need 25 people. unless we can 30 people in which case it can work exactly the same but we'll start with 6 groups of 5, top 2 from each progress into 2 groups of 6, top 2 from each progress into one group of four. the top two progress into a one on one, winner wins the competition, the bottom two go one on one to decide the runner up. this takes the same amount of weeks and everything and can work exactly the same but only if we get 30 entrys. say if we got 29 people and couldnt get any more, the most recent 4 entrys would have to be kicked out.

ok heres how i expect it'll work. we wont wait for a capella to be released in remixers section. all of DJZ's acas will be sent to the host who will pick one at random for each week. this will take 10 weeks and i doubt there are that many a capellas left to be released so i'm left no other choice.

the days are definite but the times aren't yet so dont go writing them down...

if you ask for my opinion, obviously EVERYBODY should be able to enter. I really think if taco doesn't take part the contest wont be te same. BUT if the idea is making a contest in elimination-mode, the guys who organize it NEED having round numbers of entrants, and they also need to know how many people is gonna take part.
at the beginning the contest was for 20 people, then they were asked for more slots, and they opened it to 25, and then 30... if they had been told for 35, for sure they had accepted, no doubt, but last week nobody more requested a place in the contest.

I think the mistake in this contest is the great hurry that the organizers are making all this. (feew time for entering, few days for making the remix, few days for voting...). but i think is as a result of their fancy for doing a nice job, no bad intentions in my opinion

I think we have to use brand new, unreleased material so the voting will be anonymous to avoid bias. As far as why we are limited to so many acapellas, I don't know. I'm fine with it though. But I feel bad about your situation :(
