office space, for the first time, ever...i loved it.
i love the part at the beginning, where michael bolton is in the car, listening to rap music, and a black guy walks by and he turns the volume down until he passes, because as a lilly white guy i can relate to that. it's like, i'll be at a red light in my car and i'll be "yeah, i'm rolling down rodeo with a shotgun, these people aint............grandparents bought one!"
the whole movie was great really but that was an excellent start

Francois Truffaut's Jules et Jim. Interesting filml. I'm not too big of a fan for french films for some odd reason. I like some Bresson films and Clouzot's Wages of Fear, but I just don't care much for the french style...more specifically the French New Wave style. Still, this film was pretty decent and I'll be watching it again fairly soon since I bought the DVD.

Run, don't walk. (y)
For a frame of reference, I thought Blue was outstanding, Red was pretty terrific, and White was... White was okay.
It's so nice because it's just real stuff, regular stuff, but it's very rich. And things now and again just happen, just like in life; a character will do something that's surprising but it makes perfect sense.
Syd Field probably hates the stuff, but each episode has a nice dramatic arc and keeps narrative tension going really well. It might seem a bit slow or downbeat, but give it about five minutes and you get hooked. For instance, I got interrupted about halfway through episode ten yesterday, and I haven't wanted to get back to a movie and see how it turned out so much in a long, long time.
Overall grade: A-

My Architect
I liked the way Nathaniel included his dad's buildings nearly as characters in the story. If he could have, he would have interviewed them but he did the next best thing--gave us camera angles that revealed spaces and surfaces that you might not have noticed otherwise. He watched those places and the buildings themselves from up close and then with some perspective and distance. I liked that he showed how the focus of those buildings seemed to change as the natural light shifted. Nice.

Alice
It's a 1988 foreign film (can't remember where at the moment) that used real people and stop animation to tell the story of Alice in Wonderland. It's bizarre and dark. They used real animal skeletons for some of the creatures and an actual stuffed white rabbit for the white rabbit. Pretty messed up. Some issues with the film though. I found it disruptive for them to keep going to the girl's mouth when she says "Said the white rabbit" and whenever someone else talks. Her voice is used for all the characters.
I was just expecting more, but it was interesting to see.
...did you ever see Dreamchild? That's really good.
It's about Alice, now in her 80's or so, crossing the Atlantic to receive some honor regarding Alice in Wonderland. It jolts pleasant and unpleasant reverie, and that's played out in flashbacks with Muppets, I kid you not. Some of it's really creepy. Peter Gallagher's in it, and Ian Holm plays Lewis Carroll in the flashbacks. (y)

I'd put it off all these years despite all the rave reviews cause I think that Zach Braff is such a DWEEB. You know, I actually enjoyed it. Hearing the songs from the movie made me wanna barf cuz they've been so played out. But wtf with that boat down in the hole thing?
...and we rented A History Of Violence, I'll probably watch it tonight. I think it's gonna be a good'un.

I watched the French film Cache (Hidden) last night. It is a slow paced thriller about a television book reviewer and his family being stalked. The video stalker leaves tapes wrapped in childlike drawings. The tapes show the family's street, their comings and goings and the TV hosts childhood home. The ending is very perplexing and makes you think and think. I still don't really have the answer and I have a feeling the director likes it that way. I think the film is a statement about the classes (French and Albanian---rich and poor--educated and non-educated) and shutting ourselves out to the problems of the world. It is definitely not for everyone and I still don't know if it was for me. It was of course subtitled. The cinematography was very interesting and the story is in the vain of Hitchcock. Has anyone else seen this film? I would like your opinions on the ending and it's meaning.
A to the Z, have you seen Cache?
