most of my ceramics collection - first timer
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y132/rhythmfiction/DSCF1049.jpg
Those two at the bottom in the middle, that look like they're sort of wrapped? I really like those.
There's this really cool art book, called 500 Bowls or something like that. I leaf through that in the store sometimes, and it just amazes me
what all can be a "bowl." Very cool stuff.

Thanks, those are just plain ol' pinch pots, but they turned out nice....I opted out from the whole "ashtray approach" which some people still do, I bet people still make bongs
I'll be going into Ceramics II and am working on some designs for wall sconces and sushi trays/sake glasses
It's fun, much harder than some make it look, and quite relaxing
p.s.
Been painting much? We haven't seen your work in awhile and I'm sure many are wondering

A little bit. There's one I might have finished that I'm still trying to decide if it's any good or not.

Stuff I saw at the museum this weekend that I really liked:
http://hackettfreedman.com/generated-images/_largest_w400_h400SMI-003-E.jpg
By Hassel Smith. I'd never heard of him.
I can't find the one I really want to post here...
http://www.sanjosemuseumofart.org/dynamic_content/eventImages/HasselSmith-large.jpg
From the Robots exhibition:
http://www.sanjosemuseumofart.org/dynamic_content/eventImages/Paik-Robespierre_large.jpg
This was a series of photos. The artist found all kinds of TV sets from different eras, and would group the like ones and make the
robot, then photograph it. Cool stuff.

These guys are made out of packing pieces, though I did notice a sheet of plywood at the big guy's hips, making a platform for the upper body.
I can't tell you how cool this was up close, because the shapes of the packing pieces has you guessing what might have been packed with
this or that. Stereo? Bowling ball? Blender?

done day, corner coasting billy, and cook it fast are decent photos. I would change the titles though...especially "corner coasting billy", yuck. that's a good picture though, because the kid's in focus and nothing else is. kinda different. actually, "done day" isn't that bad of a title.
also, your logo watermark is ugly and exploiting bums through photography is played out...way too 90's.
no offense! but if you're going to enter contests, you need some real criticism I think.

I think queenze, upandon, and creep are probably best. But creep is the one that seems kind of original, but the other two are better compositions.
I would definitely change all the titles, though. On some of them, trying to figure out why this was called that was actually distracting.
My two cents.
jennyb
06-05-2008, 01:14 PM
I understand it's probably quite easy to fall into the "Photographer of NYC landmarks" category. A legitimate concern fo sho. But beneath the bridges and monuments is the combination of grit and gloss that makes NYC so....... lemme see if I can spell today....... P H E N O M E N A L ya that's right I spelled it like a moron previously. Derrrr...

Nice figures, just a couple suggestions
In your running figure your foreshortening of the legs is wrong. The size of your thighs suggest visually that the extending leg is behind the bent leg and no need to show the foot in the back (it looks flat).
It looks like your foreshortening is the biggest problem (which it is...I have troubles too!)
other than that, nice studies ..my favorite is the bottom right sitting woman (y)
I miss my drawing classes

I had the same feeling. I was put into two idea of either adding muscle to the thigh to show some flexing but I wasnt sure if it was necessary, since it will make the leg to appear more in front. Nice catch.

That Buddha didn't use any glaze...just iron oxide which when applied graciously creates a metallic sheen in the folds and stuff, very cool effect
I was poking around in my photobucket and found some old shits I did. It qualifies as art.

my employers commissioned some weird dream/art installation thingie (where basically you stay overnight in a gallery in special pods and they try to control your dreams with sounnnnnddzz) and it's now on tour, so i went to the ICA in london for the book launch/listened to the artists and some psychologists talk about dreaming and creativity and SHIT (it was actually quite interesting and totally unpretentious apart from some of the audience who introduced themselves as 'unapologetic jungians'). anyhiz, another one of their exhibitions was about 'incredibly strange comics'.. here's a snap of some choice ones.

Here are a few paintings I've snagged while hanging out at all night parties usually reserved for artists only but I was able to crash the parties because one of my friends is a buyer of local artists, he felt the best time to buy was direct at the artists house around 3:00 AM when everyone is feeling nothing... and he was right. There was a time about 10 years ago we obsessed, actually went overboard in the local art scene here in Seattle, bringing in customers who were willing to pay premium dollars after actually hanging around these maniacs and seeing the heart, will, determination put forth into the art itself.
Here are a few I've snagged throughout the years,
http://www.askart.com/AskART/photos/PAC20080206_5859/lot%2035.jpg http://www.askart.com/AskART/photos/PAC20080206_5859/11.jpg

The actual art and style is very cool, I have 40 other local artists in my house right now, the value of which is much greater than the paintings I purchased while hanging out with this group of folks for a few years on a first name basis. They all are freaks, they all are hungry and they all used to call me daily... looking for buyers, I did supply them with some folks and all in all had a great time. Joe Reno who painted the Iris is a maniac, he did an oil portrait of me over two nights and let me have it for free, cool. The dude who painted the cats, he's making a wonderful living selling paintings now for anywhere $20,000 and up. Alfredo Arreguin is his name, highly respected on the west coast and Mexico.
My favorite though are the John Jay Steensma's (http://www.jaysteensma.com/) he has soul and an amazing talent. He painted the last supper on his living room wall in a small cottage here in Seattle down by Greenlake that is mindblowing, absolutely gallery level, as have been his fish on paper bags.

Yes, I did painted her in digital art program. Coral Painter X I think.
I chose this program for the portrait. Because, it offers me brushes that has a better quality of this kind of natural brush appearance. Its kind of tricky sense I never worked with that program before. The lettering is one photoshop cs3 and I'm planning to get this done soon! But my problem now is I'm having this pc bullshit where a pop up of something that says RUNDLL.exe module not working or some shit. I think I'll have to work during safe mode.
As for the tablet, I use Wacom Bamboo. Amazon has it for under $60-70.

This one cost approx 1800$, it did take quite some time to complete the design and i am not even done yet. The grouting part is the less fun to do because it is a bit messy but after you have the finish piece of art.
And yes,i cut every single piece. The left overs are always recuperate until they are too small.

dude, design is just so fucking hard for me. Everything is seen very simple and that's the problem I can not execute. Simple means everything is clear and clean. No signs of mistakes. And I have a lot of mistakes shown in my work, but because the visual is all blurred with layers and layers of color they can not be seen as mistakes. Because, they are hard to distinguish for the viewer what are the mistakes. And thats why its safer for painters to publicly display their work.
So, designing is really hard from what I think.
Yeah I getcha, it's kind of like how I always say that everyone 'thinks' that they are a designer and can make a career in it. I know so many people who did the same degree as me and either never made it into the industry or dropped out after a year and followed a new path.
The main difference (I think) between graphic design and art is that graphic design requires a certain amount of logic and is in a way framed by rules.

whoa, how'd you get the paint to do that? were you using a drawing pad?
here's my latest paint. I'm thinking I should use paint as a sketch and then make like an actual painting out of it or something.
