i don't ever seem to notice any change at all. that's my biggest problem. i'm gonna be pissed if nothing i do works, you know?

That was my problem. You need to make working out like a hobby so it doesn't become a chore. Get a notebook and before you go to bed write down what you did, how long you worked out, and how you felt when you were done. It seems to help me anyway

my inspiration at the gym is this dude who's right arm is all withered and muscle-less and his right leg is artificial but what he does have left of it looks like a broomstick

that dude is at the gym every fucking night from 7-8 and he's a goddamn champ and makes me feel like a piece of shit If I only do 25 minutes on the eliptical instead of 30

if any of you give a fuck, i will explain my major problem:
my bottom half and top half are like, different, if you know what i mean.
i don't have a lot of upper body strength. i'm like a size or two bigger on the bottom as well. so i dunno if what i want to achieve is unrealistic or what.

I find drinking warm tea made from water and lemon juice is not only cleansing but can be effective for weightloss as the acidity of the lemons helps break down the fat.

ugh, it's so difficult to find time to work out during the week. you really have to make it. but i'm so glad when i do. it always feels fantastic.

nat, i first noticed results in my legs and stomach. i've built back up a wee belly since being so lazy with working out, but i'm still really pleased with my shape. my thighs are still slim, and that's an awesome big deal to me. my arms are actually getting kind of buff, too! i do a lot of lifting and things at work.

it takes really, really being conscious about my diet and what time i eat what foods. it really doesn't take that much extra time out of my day to "budget" my calories. and that way i don't feel too bad if i have to splurge on some junk food here and there.

that's normal for women. i have NO upper body strength. you know what might help, though - swimming! seriously, it's a whole body workout instead of just your legs like in running or biking.

a great exercise for your arms is to use hand weights (or even just big cans of food) and hold them behind your shoulders, with your elbows pointing straight up. then lift them straight up to the ceiling, straightening out your arms. it gets rid of that under-arm flab better than anything else.

it makes a big difference what stroke you do in the pool do

best ab workout swimming wise is totally the butterfly stroke but thats a hard one to do if you've never taken lessons

Buy yourself an awesome new outfit that realistically could fit you... if you were the size you'd like to be, and use it as a motivational tool.
I dunno though... I've had friends who've done that then tried to palm them off to me cause they're all like I'm never going to fit into these things.
And i'm just like err neither am I ...
But yeah my housemate last year tried to give me a pair of jeans and I ended up giving them back and you know what now, about a year later, I think she actually fits them because she's dropped a good 10kg or so...

no ma'am. sure, you'll lose weight all right. you'll lose water weight, and then your body will switch into starvation mode, and switch from burning carbohydrates to something called ketosis. yes, you'll burn stored fat, but - GASP - also muscle tissue. which is VERY VERY BAD FOR YOU. ketosis is extremely harsh on your liver and kidneys, and your breath turns metallic and your body ph becomes acidic and basically all hell breaks loose. oh and by the way, your brain needs a minimum amount of glucose (which only comes from carbs) to survive, it's the only source of energy the brain gets. it can't survive on protein or fat. and all those shitty diets (especially atkins) encourage huge intakes of saturated animal fats and cholesterol with no regard to the fact that you'll be packing it into your arteries. at least you'll be SKINNY! fuck i hate that shit. people need to wake up and realize that there is no quick fix. it's about being active, and eating healthily - that means healthy habits as well as real, natural, healthy food. there have been no studies on the long-term effects of a diet such as atkins (south beach is slightly better but a "diet" suggests something temporary, it's about lifestyle), so it's really not worth it to do that crapshoot with your body.

and underage girlie, that means having a healthier body image as well. you're not fat. stop saying that. there are enough people and things in this world that will shoot you down, and why should you add to that? for god's sake, you have a backbone and you're a person just as good as anyone else. you really can't expect anyone else to stand up for you, so you've got to take charge of that shit and do it for yourself. take a fucking compliment at its face value, and stop treating yourself like that!

do you know what? posture is probably the best thing. think about your stomach muscles when you're standing still. or do the plank (http://www.yogajournal.com/poses/470_1.cfm) -- that works your arms as well as your stomach. situps (done properly), plus plank position, plus posture HAVE to work! stick at it tho.

also, eat less. or differently. i dunno, but exercise alone doesn't shift weight.

My brother's an asshole and made me feel pretty shitty. I'm trying to lose like 8ish pounds or so and asked him to not bring shit food into the house and he told me I should develop some self-control. The thing is, I'm good for the most part. But when it's cold and snowy outside or if I had a shitty day, and if I come home and see sticky buns that he bought, it's REALLY hard to say no. And he's totally not understanding. Sometimes girls aren't strong enough to say no when it's thrown in their face.

I can say no if it's not in the house. I don't go out and buy it. But if it's left out on the counter and I'm hungry and craving something sweet, it's terribly hard to say no. And I keep getting mad at myself for not just saying no because it seems like it should be so easy, to just say "I don't want that, I'm not eating it."

GOD. I hate this. :(

well it's not going to help reduce it. but if you just let your stomach muscles hang out, they're not going to get or stay flat. i don't really know what your problem is exactly. if you don't want to lose weight, then i imagine you want to firm up your muscles. i read somewhere recently that simply doing sit ups isn't going to change your stomach too much; it's also important to use your muscles in your everyday movements as well. think of pulling your stomach muscles back towards your spine. that's what they used to tell me at ballet school :P

i've lost 10 pounds. i find it quite surprising. i weighed myself last week and it is the smallest i've been for 3 years. and this was after taking a week off to go and suffer the worst hangover of my life, then eat shit and have more alcohol.

i found the cardio boring so i stopped that. now i just do a body balance class and swim at least 4 times a week. 30 lengths. i eat.. normal. i dunno. it's not rocket science.

maybe my body, at 23, has decided to just get rid of its puppy fat? or maybe it's the benefit of sensible, light exercise? or maybe it's because i have been quite ill the past week and a half and had mostly fruit smoothies to see me through. i have no idea. it's really surprising me. but imma keep on doing it!

I started Weight Watchers on Friday with my good friend. It's okay, it just really stresses eating healthy and I have to kick my junk food habit. I can have a little bad stuff here and there and count it towards my daily points, but they're really anti-crap food. Which makes sense. It just sucks.

I don't keep a scale in my apartment, but I can tell I lost maybe about a pound. Enough that when I put on shirts that were a little tight before are now just snug and look pretty good.

I'm going to stick to Weight Watcher's for another month and see how it'll continue, but so far so good. :)

Should I get a scale/measuring tape? I mean, I don't want to get obsessed and I want to base it on how I look and feel, but part of me says "get a scale so you can know for sure." Hmmm.

Dr Deaf
11-28-2006, 03:36 PM
i can tell you that it can become a bit obsessive. like you eat dinner, weigh in and boo-yeah! -- there's dinner, 3.5 lbs staring back at you.

QueenAdrock
11-28-2006, 03:39 PM
I haaate weighing myself at night. I wake up in the morning and automatically I'll be 4 pounds lighter.

You know what else keeps me from getting a scale? That time of the month. I gain about 5-7 pounds worth of water weight and I feel like a walrus and I get on the scale and it confirms it. It's pretty evil that we're given off-the-wall hormones during this time and then given water weight to make us feel fat and ugly and twice as bad because of said hormones. I mean, it could be one or the other but the combination is deadly. (n)

I just got myself a rowing machine. I hit that up every morning while listening to Stern. Haven't hit the bottle for almost 1 1/2 months. And have been losing about 1lb to 1 1/2 lbs a week (which I've heard is healthy). .
Eating habits haven't changed too much....but no booze and soda is probably making a difference.

Good times. Good times.

I still don't have a scale, but my dieting has been working. My pants are a little looser, which means I probably lost about an inch or two on my waist. Plus, I can feel that my good curves are back again. It's kinda awesome. :o

I'd still like to lose a little bit more, but right now I'm pretty satisfied. I kinda want to see what I weigh though.

YES :(

Tomorrow my company has a free luncheon. And then the day after I have two holiday parties, one for my company and then one for my friend's company. This weekend, my parents are coming up and bringing ham and more foods. And this weekend I'm going to my cousin's house for another feast.

I'm going to try to fill myself with fruits and veggies at all these shindigs first, so I'll have little room to fill myself full of the side dishes and deserts. Goddammit how I love mashed potatoes and macaroni and cheese though. And pie. :(

I am actually getting into a somewhat regular schedule for the gym, even if it's only a few times a week. That's big for me because I normally don't stick to any schedule of any kind - I think breaking up with my boyfriend had a lot to do with that because I would be hanging out with him constantly and just sitting on my ass doing nothing. Of course, there is the no sex factor now, I guess that burned some calories...

I was going to not drink until New Years because it's not only empty calories but apparently really bad for your metabolism if you're trying to lose weight, but I crave Blue Moons! Not in an alchoholic way, in a taste way. But I've cut back at least a little bit. I haven't lost any weight yet but I'm expecting the scale to show some results in the next few weeks hopefully.

woohoo i have very high blood pressure! as a result the gp says i must switch my diet so i eat bacon and eggs for breakfast instead of Weetbix. technically i'm classified as obese weighing in at 113 kg, but i'd like to know how many obese people can bench press 120% of their own weight. so i'm calling myself a chubby bastard that could prolly knock you out in one hit.

anyway, i'm suppose to aim 81.9kg, which will be impossible without losing a significant amount of muscle mass. so peoples, any suggestions to lose fat mass over muscle mass?

*ahem*

:o

I REACHED MY GOAL WEIGHT.

i weighed myself tonight and surprise, i was actually a pound underneath! holy hell! i've been watching my intake like a hawk and working out much more regularly and intensely lately, and damn, it has paid off. my pants are fitting me much looser, i look rad in tight shirts and skirts, and i can see in my face that i've gotten thinner. i've still got some work to do in the handles de amor and maybe the legs - just toning up - and i'd really like to get buffer arms. i can't lift for shit. but anyway. tonight was exciting. i haven't weighed this much in...hrm. 6 years i think. damn. i've come a long way. :o

i am on a sort of bastardised detox. one that, er, allows milk. because i'm eating cereal for lunch every day. shut up, i have to save monies!

before christmas i lost a ridiculous amount of weight in a record amount of time. it was stupid and unhealthy and really exhausting, but i did it. i was probably at my thinnest since i was a teenager.

anyway, surprise surprise, the same pair of jeans i had to practically hold up when wearing them are pretty fucking snug now and i need to get off my quite considerably sized ass.

i feel like an unattractive slob. i am not looking forward to exercising with all the tight little gym bunnies tomorrow. ugh. /fantasises about eating potatoes and drinking cider.

anyone else having an it's-summer-and-i'm-out-of-shape freak out?

i wouldn't say freaking out...but ive definitely got a belly on me now. at first it was a little round...but now im definitely bell belled. and can't follow my excercise "regimen" until i get my shoulder surgerified.

its funny look back to a year and half ago and me talking about the rowing machine. cause that was probably the last day I used it.

yeah...its time to start over...pronto.

Oh man. I've gained quite a bit of weight back. I keep reminding myself how much I've still lost overall, but it's a slippery slope.

yeah but so does gaining weight, so it's a lose/lose situation.

i am a childless soon to be 25 year old with an abundance of stretchmarks already, it's only going to get worse. thanks for reminding me and everyone else like this we have wholly unflattering bodies whatever we do! (y)

I gained 8 pounds while in montreal. then I lost 4 of them in may, and now I gained them back.

its my birthday this weekend so I expect to drink about 2 more pounds worth onto this rack.
