i'm not really a fan of tea, but my mom is. some forest fruit and raspberry tea makes the whole house smell lovely.

thw white tea with bergamot kinda has that earl gray taste without the bitterness. it's a sweeter earl gray without caffeine. i feel cleaner when i drink it.

i prefer chrysanthemum tea, but it's hard to find in the bud form around here. the crystal stuff just tastes nasty.

i make a pitcher of iced jasmine green tea and drink that throughout the day instead of soda or something. it's so yummy, doesn't need any sweeteners.

i drink peppermint tea or fennel (peppermint tastes way better though) when my tummy's upset, a great pms tea when i need a diuretic, and very occasionally, english breakfast tea. mmm. i'm sensitive to caffeine, though, so i can't do more than a cup of that at a time usually.

actually, pauli, white tea has more caffeine than green, unless it's been decaffeinated. granted, it's a slightly different caffeine than say, coffee, and earl grey actually uses a different tea plant, but still...the more you process the green tea plant, the less caffeine it has. white tea>green tea>oolong, which has practically none. white has lots of antioxidants in it, though.

cosmo: i think it's the bergamot they add that makes it taste like earl gray (grey? fuck it i dont know). and i dont know if it has been decaffeinated actually. it just doesnt jolt me like black tea. i find green tea sometimes a bit too bitter. i have to be in the mood for it or eating japanese food.

see, i don't really like most green tea, but i LOVE jasmine green tea. it's so smooth.

and yeah, the caffeine in green/white tea is different than that of earl grey...it's more of a mental energy. i can drink a liter of green tea before bed and sleep like a baby, but if i do more than one cup of earl grey in the morning, my eyelids are twitching and i'm tossing and turning all night.

My favorite in the winter is ginger and in the summer it's a jasmine green blend. No sweeteners.

I have so, SO much lemon balm and a mess of varieties of mint (one is a chocolate mint leaf) that run crazy through my back yard. That makes summer tea very nice and it's gorgeous smelling when the breeze ruffles through them in the early part of the night.

Numi teas are so great and they make pretty gifts. Often after I've paper-edited a report, I'll attach one of those tea bags to my markups just to spread some numi around. :)

I also make tea from bugleweed, which I grow in my back yard. It's not the best-tasting tea, but it has some medicinal effects and that's good. The same thing can be said for ginger tea--I started out using it medicinally but I acquired a taste for it in time and now I love it in the winter, by the heater, with a book, a blanket, and my cat.

i've been meaning to try breaking in to tea. are you supposed to put anything in it, or do you just drink it straight?

exactly. i can't really do just straight green tea, but jasmine has this smoothness to it - doesn't need any sweetener whatsover. there's this brand that you can get at health food stores that's imported from japan (it even comes in their cool bottles) that is sooo yummy. isn't it awesome?

you can sweeten it if you want to, but most herbal and green teas don't need it. if you drink black tea straight, you've got my respect and some serious balls.

it really depends also on how long you steep it. i like mild black tea, i steep leaves (and a bit o' cinnamon stick) little in a little teapot, then when i want black tea, i pour a little of this black tea and fill the cup with hot water. not bitter. if im feeling dangerous, i'll splash a little milk. the key to tea is to drink something more...wholesome than lipton. tends to have more flavor.
