It's poorly worded either way, it implies the strap breaks causing the wiimote to slip from their hands. That's physically impossible. That's like saying you drop your tennis racket because your sweatband breaks.

That would make more sense if the sweatband was attached to the racket.

But hey-ho.

When you say Metroid comes out in "fall"... are you talking about november 2007? :(

Yes, I do unfortunately. It was supposed to be a launch title here in the states, which had me quite stoked, but it was pushed back to the ungodly far away date of "Fall 2007". But I have a hunch Retro will make the wait worth it...word is they are adding some WiiConnect24 functionality.

I've noticed my controller speaker crapping out from time to time also. From what I've read, this is a common problem. I think it stems from Nintendo using the cheapest possible speakers they could find, to cut down on costs. It makes sense, really. The remotes have internal memory (albeit a sparse 4k), rumble, all the tilt gizmos, and that speaker. No wonder they're $40. No excuse, still. But I at least see Nintendo's reasoning.

90% of all the problems you hear about concerning Wii Remotes flying out of peoples hands stem from dumb cunt children not using the wrist strap. I have no sympathy, I mean, it plainly states to wear the damn thing. The media just latched on to it and ran....then blew it way out of proportion....like they do everything else.

I've been gradually playing Zelda: Twilight Princess. I'm about to go to the second temple. I can't help but sense this creepy feeling whenever I'm roaming about in the Twilight dimension as a wolf. It's the music that gives it that mood, I think.

I have to get back to Red Steel too. I got pretty far when I first started it, but left off at this automobile body shop level, where I was outmatched. Excite Truck is fun. My brother unlocked a new truck while he was trying Wii out for the first time, heh.

Unfortunatley my camera doesn't have sound. Also, tasmanians don't say "crikey". We say "golly". Ask susan. But the look on links face when he picks up that heart was identical to mine, I must admit.

i don't have any nuts though, but i'd prefer we'd leave balls out of nintendo's online playground. i'd prefer something more masculine, like stubble. bellybuttons. ankle hair. that sort of thing. (um, not that i have any of those things.. apart from a bellybutton. but a feminine one, of course!)

Also, I think I figured something out. When the Wii is off, and you press a button on the remote, the blue lights flash. The number of lights that flash resembles that amount of battery power. i.e. 2 lights flash, half batter power. All by myself!

Right. It can't run on an ethernet cable, so I bought a D-link wireless router (for $100 :(, but I can also use it for my laptop). The wii has all the wireless technology buit into it, so I just plugged the bastard in between my computer and the ADSL modem and it seems to work, wich is lucky for me. You can also wait a month or so and buy a nintendo adaptor that will allow it to run on a cable, but it would be for around the same price as a router, or you can track down a nintendo wifi USB connector that plugs into your compter and gives you instant wireless (but only for the wii or a DS). I tried to find one and couldn't, but I live in tas, so...

I don't know of any room requirements. I have about 2 metres from the TV to the couch, and four metres to the wireless router - no problems for me.

bob, the wii controls and its sheer intuition mean that the wii version compared to the GC one is a must-have, according to all the blogs/reviews i've read. people say they can't imagine going back to the way it was.
You're just saying that, because you want another person to chalk onto the side of your wii as having been tricked into buying one!

yeah, there should be a way to get to the separated one, like a small area where you can get through - it's like a maze. just keep looking. then kill one more. it's harder to kill three at a time than it is to kill two.

I JUST finished Twilight Princess and I have to say it sure was amazing.

It didn't have the same effect of awe since Ocarina of Time came first but games don't get much better than this.

I was dissapointed that I couldn't save when it was over but the ending was really good and the final fight was almost as good as Ocarina's but not quite.

If anyone buys the Wii and doesn't get TP I feel sorry for them.

One could easily argue that the Wii had the best launch lineup for any home console....so I'd have to disagree.

But you are right about '07. Some heavy hitters be coming, son.

I didn't enjoy it very much. If you took away Zelda Twilight Princess, which was a different version to the GameCube game, then you'd have a rather lackluster launch. It's all by preference, though. Then you look at the rest of the line-up, and the only other ones that stood out were Excite Truck, Red Steel, Rayman Raving Rabids, and perhaps Trauma: Second Opinion.

Another thing, to clarify, what I'm referring to about 2007 -- unannounced games will materialize in the form of announcements, screen shots, and video. Right now, all we're being hyped about are Super Mario Galaxy, Metroid Prime 3: Corruption, and Super Smash Bros. Brawl, which by no means are sleepers, but still, I'd like to be assured from Nintendo that there is much more to come.

This isn't just Wii. Same goes for PlayStation 3. Even Xbox 360 to an extent, despite being around longer. So I'm not bashing Wii exclusively. This isn't to say people shouldn't be exciting themselves for Wii. It's an awesome, lovely console, to have a blast on. I'm just playing devil's advocate. I like doing that.

Edit: Ah, forgot to add -- some of my favorite launches were the Nintendo 64 and Sega Dreamcast, especially the latter. The fun factor was so high. When Soul Calibur first launched for the Dreamcast, it was addictive as hell. The gameplay and controls were smooth, and the graphics looked impressive. I haven't played Soul Calibur 2 & 3, but the original was well-done. Then, you know, Nintendo 64 had the legendary Super Mario 64. Playing that for the first time was surreal. On the other hand, the Nintendo 64 launch had few games available at launch, but what made that one special was the jump from 2D to 3D.
Why won't anyone talk Wii Sports with me?

Baseball and golf rock. For the latter, the game, not playing the sport in real life. :P How do you like Wii Sports?

I don't see it to be honest.

Not that it's going to stop me from getting one... but I don't see how the Wii line-up is impressive, especially taking away Zelda.

alright i read the review, and it sounds like the differences are pretty insubstantial, i think i'm just gonna buy a gamecube (found one for $50 used!) and get the GC version. the biggest thing seems to be the controls, everybody's gushing about how well the game plays on the wii, but i haven't played the wii, so i won't know what i'm missing. i've always loved the way the zelda games controlled on a traditional controller, z targeting and all that, so i'm honestly not too worried about it.

the GC version doesn't support widescreen, but neither does my TV, so i don't care! i can't wait to play it, i haven't been excited about a video game in a long damn time.

That's bananas. $50 for a used Zelda Twilight Princess, on the GameCube even. The reason for this is because Nintendo deliberately made few units of the GameCube version, so the Wii version could overshadow it. I remember reading about how Nintendo was going to make it online-exclusive to buy, but I wasn't sure if that was true. I'll bet you could find used games of Zelda Twilight Princess at GameStop/EB.

Bob
01-01-2007, 09:16 PM
actually i turned out to be lying, i guess i was looking at something else. still, gamecubes aren't too expensive. i bought a copy of TP from amazon, but i had to buy it through an individual seller, $65 new. should be well worth it though. i remember back in the SNES days, spending $75 on mario RPG (well, my dad spent the money, i was too young to have that kind of dough).

Miho
01-01-2007, 09:27 PM
Yeah, I remember those days. Brand-new games came at a huge chunk of change. I regret not being older during the SNES era, so I could afford those expensive SNES games. I think, my family bought me Mega Man X2 and EarthBound. About it. Some SNES games were more than the current generation games. Let's be thankful those days are past us.

It could be that because video games have become more popular, that prices have gone down slightly. Considering there is more of a demand for them. Moreso for the US, since Japan was doing alright in the 1990s.

I think the sega mega drive my parents bought my sister and I cost about what I paid for the wii. But back then you could get an automobile for fifty pounds and Bubsy for tuppence.

I saw gamecube windwaker in a store a few days ago for $AU50, and I totaly was going to get it. I went in today and all they have left is Xtreme bass fishing 7 and Finding nemo. I'm still waiting for the prepaid online points things to come in, too. I really need to download Gunstar heroes... and fast!

Indeed. In the 6 years that both Xbox iterations have been around, I haven't seen so much as one title that was a system seller (in my eyes, at least). The only thing that ever came close (and damn close) was JSRF. It's why I keep my eyes out for a super cheap Xbox to this day. I played the Dreamcast and Game Boy Advance JGR's to death. The DC version is probably my favorite game on the system...
