Awwww, this inter-album period is way better than inter-HN-TT5B period. Screw You, that 6-year no-talk-from-them period, I hate You!!

You know Beastie Boys have not played in Poland since 1995, in Norway since 1999, Austria since 1998, Spain since 1998 and they never played in Portugal, Turkey and Serbia so maybe show some undertsanding.

They always play more concerts in the U.S. It's only a matter of time when they announce them.

But I just assumed that they play everywhere when they do play. I never thought that they'd leave out some of the bigger countries, i sure as hell never thought they'd skip out on Poland.

I dunno Mir, I like to think that the beasties wrote that newsletter, and if not them, then Minton or one of the other mod's. I know that the word sick might not translate well to other languages but I have to disagree with the trying to sound young and hip thing. I dont think thats the case at all. I think living in New York, exspecially being from the hip hop scene, you tend to pick those things up wether you like it or not. I suppose its the same with them as it is with most of the younger kids who listen to rap these days, before you know it your running around saying 'yessir' and things like that. I think thats just the way it is. I think the beasties are gonna be in their 80's and still picking up new lingo.
I think living there, besides being in the buisiness, just puts you in the center of the hip hop community and it becomes a part of you.

JohnnyChavello

I like the word sick. It's not really hip-hop lingo, though; more like skater lingo if you ask me. I'm not a linguist, so I don't know whether the word translates well into other languages (how many languages do you speak, by the way?), but honestly, I could give a .. Beastie Boys are sick; overeager intermeddlers/teacher's pets are not sick.

RaZoRbLaDe KiSs

I dont really think its skater lingo or hip hop lingo to be honest. That word is common among a lot of diffrent types of people - mostley people who center into the rock community. When I think sick i think (sic) which reminds me of slipknot, and Slipknot isnt really skate or hip hop.

I think its just lingo.

Ive been hearin the word "sick" way before there were skaters!

To me, the word SEXY is rather overused at the moment, thanks to JT's song being played over and over and over and over...

ADD: I grew up at the beach in Southern California and the word 'sick' has been around for a long, long time - mostly with the surfers and skaters... and, I still use some of the same slang words as I did in junior high and high school, so for the beastie boys to be using 'sick' - it's probably because it's in their daily vocabulary... not because they are trying to sound young.

What are you talking early-70s, then? Skateboarding culture has been around for a while. Anyway, who knows who first coined the term in its current sense, all I know is that in the mid to late 80s skaters were used it in the same way it's being used now. If they didn't come up with it, I know for a fact that they're largely responsible for popularizing it, along with a whole lot of other stuff that later hit the mainstream.

Geesh! There are a few of you who immediately think the worst of everything and everyone. You are the most miserable sods. You bring this place down. (n)

I'm all about the silly. Why do you think I like the Beastie Boys? For their snappy outfits and sharp haircuts?

Editorial suggestions are not the same as grammatical and punctuation corrections.

My editorial suggestion was for the newsletter writer(s) to rethink the use of the word [i]sick. It's not a word that translates well in other languages, and it's not a word that mature people (such as the Beastie Boys) should use because it makes them sound like they're trying to be young and hip. You might argue that it's hip-hop lingo and they're a hip-hop band; however, I was under the impression that this new album is not a hip-hop one. No?

In my writings, I've been using the word sexy to describe the new material, the upcoming tour, etc. That's a word that translates the same in every language -- and the connotations associated with that word are infinitely more pleasing than that of sick. I thought the Beastie Boys, who are lovers of words, would appreciate my suggestion.

Sexy is good to describe the suits too. :D
How can you claim to be such a big fan of the Beastie Boys yet still be uptight? If they ever come on here I guarantee you that they laugh at 80% of your posts. And not the bits you want them to laugh at.

Chillax shorty, quit being a busta.

You can obveously tell that they are, I mean, Yauch rocks the tags on his pants for gods sake. Ok maybe not "ghetto" but I cant think of a better word for it - Maybe "Urban"?? I dont really give a shit what you wanna call it, but I never said listening to rap wasnt a culture. The whole point of what im trying to get across is that it can become a lifestyle. Its like being vegan or something like that, if your really passionant about it, your life kind of centers around it and people on the outside consider you in that manner.
If you look at it, everyone whose really into the hip hop scene is in most areas considered "ghetto" or urban, or whatever - because from listening to that music (in access) you pick up the lingo and the fashion (yes even you count you little fuck) and people just look at you that way.
Naturally where I used to live is considered a ghetto, but where do you think hip hop originated from? the GHETTOS of New York and Cali. Hip hop in itself is considered to be "ghetto" by most people, hence the reason that I used that term. Come down to my area now, and ask any of the kids who live here what they think of someone who is really really into rap and thier "ghetto".

i've never been to the south bronx, but i have heard that it is. prolly is. its like a jungle sometimes it makes me wonder how i keep from going under....yea i guess it is a ghetto

listening to rap is part of hip hop not the entire thing, theres more elments of hip hop than just MC'ing. (nah RBK i'm not dissing u, its just i've explained this to my 14 year old dumb fuck friends & i have actually gotten thru to some of them)

Stop saying the word ghetto, you moron. A ghetto is a place where the powers that be put people of a particular race to exclude them from society. You're just throwing the word about like it means "a rough area" or something.

I'm going to Europe for my honeymoon next January......how rock'n would it be to see the Beasties in Europe on my honeymoon and it be an all instrumental show........my dream come true!!!!!!!!!! ;)

Since when has the Bronx NOT been a ghetto?

its never been a ghetto. theres neighborhoods in the bronx, like theres neighborhoods everywhere, that would be considered a ghetto. but as a whole,,,,, no.

I know people still live there. But whenever you hear people refer to the Bronx its always considered a bad area, like the worst in New York. Its like the south Side of Chicago in NY.

thats funny.

its true that people tend to look at the south bronx as a representation of the whole area. theres definitely that connotation of bronx = bad but it truly is a sterotype in every sense of the word.

Thats because Little Italy is being overtaken by Chinatown.

The bronx is huge, with wildlife preserves ranges, and working class neighborhoods. Thanks to some fucked up city planning they carved it up and created these pockets of low cost housing stuffed between freeways, and industrialized blocks with nothing but automotive garages which lended themselves to being more "ghetto" like.

Today the Bronx is relatively safe with really strong communities. A big chunk of it is still lower cost housing, It's not a yuppie playground like Manhattan yet, but it's far from a warzone. Developers are starting to pitch the South Bronx tip closest to Harlem as the "SoBro", the new hot neighborhood. They already moved the Fulton Fish Market from lower manhattan into the South Bronx.

A lot of the people who helped invent Hip Hop still live in the Bronx.

Stop saying the word ghetto, you moron. A ghetto is a place where the powers that be put people of a particular race to exclude them from society. You're just throwing the word about like it means "a rough area" or something.

why don't you calm down Fagster.

and then give me (and the rest of the world who uses this word however we want) a break.

Yeah, now that I think of it I can't remember you insulting me either...strange.

And as far as "putting you in your place" goes...it's quite pointless doing that to an arrogant teenager. So I'll leave that to a pro.
